Civil police officers detained a man on femicide charges on the 6th after finding 37-year-old physician Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia dead inside a residential apartment in Maringá, located in northern Paraná. The suspect will face formal charges for the killing within the municipality. Her infant child survived.

Officers from the Polícia Militar responded to an emergency call at the property and confirmed that the female resident had already died in the room. Investigators from the Polícia Civil do Paraná tracked the suspect shortly afterward to his mother’s residence in Mandaguari, where authorities placed him under guard at a local hospital for treatment of sharp-weapon lacerations after learning the couple had reconciled their romantic relationship.

Following the detention, the Prefeitura de Marialva announced the official dismissal of the suspect from its roster of municipal public servants, releasing an official declaration: “The municipal administration vehemently and absolutely repudiates any act of violence against women and reaffirms that conduct threatening the life, dignity, and integrity of any individual is entirely inadmissible.”

“Gassi was not merely a client; she was our friend, formed an integral part of our history, and left an enduring mark on every corner of the salon,” Gomes recalled regarding the victim. “Many of our clients knew her because she always arrived smiling, spoke to everyone, and transformed ordinary moments into joy with her loud, contagious laughter.” The homicide investigation remains ongoing under the direction of detectives from the Polícia Civil do Paraná.
