The Voyager 1 space probe will cross the outer boundary of the Oort cloud at a distance equivalent to 100,000 times the separation between Earth and the Sun in approximately 30,000 years, continuing outward on an extended interstellar path. Roughly 10,000 years later, the craft will fly within 1.6 light-years of red dwarf Gliese 445, located 17.6 light-years from Earth, on a course that could lead to an impact with a habitable exoplanet billions of years ahead as an interstellar meteor.

Brown University physicist Stephon Alexander recalled meeting Harvard researchers during an academic gathering held in Iceland.

Thermal sensors on United States military satellites continuously track ballistic missile launches and record fireballs entering Earth’s atmosphere. Those logs feed the public catalog maintained by the Center for Near Earth Object Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Professor Volkan Duran leads an investigation into whether objects recorded in that registry exceed the escape velocity of the Solar System.

The investigation evaluated 19 detections across radar stations, satellites, optical equipment, and infrasound networks to calibrate the speed accuracy of the catalog. Seven events showed interstellar origin.

Confirmed trajectories of macroscopic celestial bodies 1I/ʻOumuamua, 2I/Borisov, and 3I/ATLAS demonstrated ongoing movement of matter originating beyond the Solar System.

A technical evaluation built an evidence hierarchy for hyperbolic trajectories and marked the Polar-IM event, recorded on April 1, 2026, with work from postdoctoral researcher Richard Cloete, as the primary anomaly identified since 2018. Verification now requires three-dimensional impact reconstructions using independent stereoscopic records.

The CNEOS data structure releases coordinates and velocity measurements without compromising confidential military sensor parameters. Leadership at the UAP Science Advisory Council requests additional disclosures from the United States government to advance studies on unidentified anomalous phenomena. Any direct link between these atmospheric entries and artificial hardware remains unverified.

Mount Lemmon Observatory, part of the Catalina Sky Survey, spotted asteroid CERNQ52 hours before the one-meter rock reached Earth’s atmosphere over the Indian Ocean between 16:00 and 16:30 UTC. The rock caused no damage.

Avi Loeb led the Harvard Astronomy Department between 2011 and 2020, founded the Black Hole Initiative, directs the Galileo Project, and released the paperback edition of Interstellar in August 2024.
