New York final awaits Aryna Sabalenka after straight-set win
Aryna Sabalenka secured her place in the US Open final by defeating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in New York on September 10, 2026. The Belarusian athlete eliminated her American opponent in two straight sets on the tournament hard court.
Sabalenka recorded 29 winners across the fast-paced hard-court clash. Pegula finished the semifinal match with 12 winners. “I have no complaints, I am very happy that I managed to show this level of tennis,” Sabalenka said.
Pursuit of three consecutive tournament crowns in New York
The victory extended Sabalenka’s tournament winning streak to 19 consecutive matches dating back to the 2023 final. Claiming a third straight title would match the historic run achieved by Serena Williams between 2012 and 2014.
Pegula comes from Buffalo.

By returning a 77-mile-per-hour second serve with a punishing 90-mile-per-hour forehand strike early in the second set, Sabalenka secured a decisive break that thoroughly dismantled Pegula and established total control across the entire tennis court. Pegula failed to capitalize on her chance to close out the opening set when serving at 6-5.
Upcoming championship decider and top ranking transition
Sabalenka advances to confront either Elena Rybakina or Coco Gauff in the tournament final. Rybakina will assume the top spot in the world rankings following the next update after her opponent held the position for 99 straight weeks. The competition gathered the top four seeded players in the semifinal round for the first time since 1975.
Pegula slammed her tennis racquet onto the court after mistiming a net volley during the final set.
