Chinese content creator Chen Ziyi, widely recognized across digital platforms under the online handle Ganfan Yingying, died at age 24 in China on August 17 after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest triggered by an acute loss of potassium in her body. Local medical reports directly connected her critical physiological collapse to the extreme and hazardous dietary routines she repeatedly showcased during live internet performances.

The young broadcaster routinely produced live mukbang streams, an audiovisual web phenomenon where hosts consume disproportionately massive quantities of food directly in front of digital cameras for audiences.

Her parents formally announced the August 17 death on the 4th through official messages published across social networks. Chen had amassed an audience of 1 million followers who tracked her broadcasts. Her family confirmed the loss.

During her final video published on August 14, Chen revealed that relentless rounds of compulsive binge eating plummeted the potassium concentration in her bloodstream down to 2.3. That severe nutritional collapse forced doctors to rush the young influencer into emergency hospital care just days prior to her death.

Chen explicitly linked the steady decline of her physical condition to the commercial demands of her streaming contracts. Healthcare professionals had already admitted her to medical wards on previous occasions due to the exact same diagnosis. The streamer previously admitted that she regularly forced herself to throw up after completing her high-calorie recordings.

Chen stated during that publication that while generating revenue held great value, personal health belonged above financial gain.

These marathon broadcast sessions inflicted severe physical punishment on online hosts. During one commercial broadcast, Chen consumed between 60 and 70 preserved eggs to satisfy business partners, illustrating the intense financial pressure content creators faced to ingest massive volumes of food even when their bodies completely rejected it. Contracts required continuous chewing.
