SEGA brings Virtua Fighter 5 to the Xbox Game Pass library

Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass gained access on September 10, 2026, to a critically acclaimed AAA fighting game from a renowned SEGA franchise created more than two decades ago. The title is available now.

Originating as a celebrated arcade release in 1993, Virtua Fighter established the 3D combat series under publisher SEGA before expanding across several hardware generations, appearing on platforms that include the SEGA Saturn, PlayStation 2, and Xbox Series X/S.

The latest installment of the franchise is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, which originally launched in October 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A subsequent port reached Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage joined the September 2026 catalog for Xbox Game Pass, targeting fans of classic 3D fighting franchises such as SoulCalibur, Tekken, and Dead or Alive.

Access to Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage belongs to active subscribers on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. The title may also join the Essential tier toward late 2026 or early 2027.

Developed by RGG Studio, the team behind Yakuza and Like a Dragon, this release upgrades the 2006 original with improved visuals, modernized systems, and revised mechanics.

The game delivers a fresh single-player story mode alongside full crossplay support across all platforms, additional moves, combos, and multiple gameplay adjustments. Developers also integrated rollback netcode to stabilize online matches.

Critical reception and player ratings across gaming platforms

User evaluations on Steam classify Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage as Mostly Positive across more than 1,800 player reviews. The aggregate platform Metacritic registers a rating of 7.8 for the fighting release. Community scores reach 4.5/5 on the PlayStation Store.

Microsoft has not published an expiration date specifying how many months Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage will remain available in the service.

SEGA plans to expand the fighting franchise further with Virtua Fighter Crossroads, slated to launch in 2027. Production on the upcoming entry remains under active development.
