Sony prepares initial development details for the Xperia 1 IX on 10 September 2026, arriving months after the manufacturer unveiled the Xperia 1 VIII in May and dispatched the flagship device to retail markets in June. Early information reveals that the upcoming successor will continue the premium line.

Preliminary hardware data indicates that the smartphone will incorporate a primary photographic sensor larger than the 1/1.35-inch component found on the Xperia 1 VIII, forcing engineers to redesign the rear camera module into an expanded square housing to accommodate the physical dimensions.

The modification represents the first primary sensor revision for the flagship family since the Xperia 1 V arrived in 2023. Bigger sensors capture more light. This physical expansion improves nighttime photographic performance across challenging dark environments.

Sony plans to schedule the official debut of the Xperia 1 IX for next year if the company maintains its standard annual release timetable. Technical specifications and hardware parameters will surface as manufacturing milestones approach.
