GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards will receive DLSS 5 upgrade

NVIDIA confirmed development work to introduce official DLSS 5 support to GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards after deploying the upscaling system on GeForce RTX 50 hardware alongside NBA 2K27.

“DLSS 5 is our most computationally demanding model to date, but engineering teams secured a 5x performance gain since the initial announcement in March, while our active focus centers entirely on optimizing the GeForce RTX 50 series ahead of scheduled autumn updates,” the company stated. “Once performance across the RTX 50 lineup reaches target thresholds, engineers will expand official deployment to GeForce RTX 40 hardware.”

The manufacturer shared details after independent players bypassed restrictions to run the code across RTX 40, RTX 30, and RTX 20 units. Performance dropped sharply. Legacy silicon lacks the Multi Frame Generation components present in newer architectures.
