Ranching mod turns Red Dead Redemption 2 into a farm sim
NexusMods creator M8Tmods released a modification titled Ranching for computer players of Red Dead Redemption 2 on September 10, 2026. The project converts the western action game into an agricultural simulator that lets users operate commercial properties.
Available properties across the western territory
Players can purchase and operate four specific locations across the open world, including Argile Rise, Ridge View Cabin, and Shepard’s Rise Cabin. John Marston’s canonical homestead at Beecher’s Hope also serves as a fully manageable ranch under this system. Each private homestead supports up to four agricultural plots and four animal pens.
Wagons deliver all orders.

Daily labor duties and farm tasks
Users who do not buy their own land can take employment at existing ranches to earn money through manual chores. Hired hands must spread hay, feed chickens, plow fields, sow seeds, water crops, and refill water troughs across the facilities.
The system allows landowners to cultivate diverse items and harvest products for commercial sale. Field plots accommodate between one and five distinct crops simultaneously. Players trade several goods produced inside their facilities:
- Fresh farm crops from cultivated plots
- Butchered meats from raised animals
- Various animal derivatives gathered from pens

Community reaction and player reviews
User feedback on NexusMods praised the release immediately following its launch. One player wrote “Very good mod,” while another commenter declared, “Congratulations on the amazing work.”

Another fan wrote, “Woooooow, my dreams about RDR2 realised.” The release arrived alongside several community projects designed to expand the base game on computers. Independent developers recently created an alternate timeline expansion that brings deceased story characters back together at Beecher’s Hope as active companions. In this companion project, players can pick any historical character to ride alongside them across the wilderness regardless of narrative deaths.
Other community expansions for computer players
Another independent development group is preparing an expansion package that transports Red Dead Redemption 2 players into Mexico. A separate release incorporates narrative assignments based directly on the classic 2002 video game Mafia into the existing engine.
While developer Rockstar Games has not published an official edition for newer console hardware, this third-party Mafia adaptation adds missions modeled directly on the classic 2002 gangster release to provide computer users with fresh structured campaign objectives.
