Samsung plans to advance the rollout of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 ahead of its original 2027 schedule following the commercial release of the Apple iPhone Duo. The South Korean manufacturer shifted its strategy to keep its triple-screen concept active in consumer markets.
Manufacturing plans focus on a lighter frame and faster development
Lanzuk reported that Samsung aims to introduce a thinner, lighter, and structurally more durable Galaxy Z TriFold 2 alongside an accelerated version of its rumored slideable device while maintaining a nearly identical retail price tag of $2,899.
The original Galaxy Z TriFold debuted in South Korea in December 2025 before arriving in the United States in January 2026 for $2,899. Samsung halted sales three months later. Elevated production expenses and complicated internal hardware limited the initial release to an engineering showcase rather than a mass-market product.
Rival devices from Huawei and Apple alter mobile hardware competition
Huawei introduced the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design with an inward-folding hinge and a 10.2-inch display to establish a durable multi-screen alternative. Apple entered the foldables market with the iPhone Duo, intensifying commercial pressure on Samsung to demonstrate its existing foldable technologies.
The identical $2,899 target retains the hardware within luxury spending brackets. Structural refinements make the TriFold 2 lighter, yet retail affordability remains an obstacle for typical consumers. The initial commercial run confirmed the friction of scaling demonstration devices into high-volume catalog items. Samsung faces consumer pushback if the final retail cost stays at $2,899 without adjustments.
