Microsoft Copilot adds internal web browser on Windows 11
Microsoft expanded the Copilot application by integrating an internal web browser for users on Windows and Mac systems, establishing a broader rollout scheduled for late November 2026 after the technology company initiated preliminary testing of the tool in March. The update lets people view websites directly alongside the chat interface.
The built-in system prevents external redirects by keeping all clicked links contained inside the Copilot workspace.
Administrative controls currently govern early access to the split-screen tool before the general release. Users manage tabs, switch into full-screen mode, or push specific links outward to default software. The system stores data locally, operating like Microsoft Edge.
This in-app browsing model functions similarly to Microsoft Teams. Platforms including X follow suit.
The update tests whether integrated software can alter established daily workflows for computer users. Google applied comparable browsing integrations on mobile systems through its Gemini assistant. Microsoft aims to keep users within its desktop ecosystem during active search sessions.
The internal browser strategy targets current Copilot users rather than forcing conversions through Microsoft Edge sidebars. Both pathways provide related features while maintaining distinct system entry points.
