Telecom Italia cedes 66.6% stake to Poste Italiane in buyout
Italian postal operator Poste Italiane took indirect corporate control of Brazilian wireless carrier TIM Brasil on September 18, 2026. The strategic move formally restructured the ownership framework across the telecommunications group.
This corporate shift occurred immediately after the state-owned postal service expanded its equity participation in Telecom Italia. Poste Italiane lifted its equity interest in Telecom Italia from an initial 20% stake to a decisive 66.6% majority through a landmark public tender offer valued at 13 billion euros, which equals 76.82 billion Brazilian reais. That transaction sealed absolute control.
Official market disclosures from TIM confirmed that the tender offer established Poste Italiane as the primary controlling shareholder of Telecom Italia. Consequently, the transaction designated the postal group as the indirect controlling entity of TIM Brasil. The filing noted that governance standards will remain aligned with statutory requirements. Poste Italiane scheduled a reopening of the acceptance window for remaining shareholders from September 21 to September 25, 2026. The additional adherence round will proceed under standard financial market regulations.
