Metro Redux is receiving an official next-gen upgrade across modern hardware, developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver announced on Thursday (1). The update will be distributed free of charge to all existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The studio confirmed the update alongside reaching 50 million lifetime sales across the post-apocalyptic franchise. “Returning to where it all began with the Next-Gen Update of METRO Redux – and bringing it to fans free of charge as we did with METRO Exodus – felt like the right way to continue to say thank you,” said Jon Bloch, executive producer at 4A Games.

Metro Redux visual upgrades and console performance targets

On home consoles, the enhanced editions introduce native 4K resolution running at 60 frames per second, alongside an upscaled 4K presentation reaching up to 120 frames per second on compatible displays. The visual package incorporates 4K textures, enhanced lighting, refined shadows, upgraded particle effects, improved animation fidelity, and real-time tessellation. Audio pipelines have also been reworked across both titles to deliver improved acoustic depth.

PC release timeline and platform features for Metro Redux

On PC, Metro Redux will integrate Nvidia Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), Spatial Audio capabilities, unlocked frame rates, and several quality-of-life adjustments requested by the player base. The deployment follows a staggered release calendar across digital platforms:

  • October 22, 2026: Next-Gen Update launch on PC
  • October 29, 2026: Next-Gen Update launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
  • February 4, 2027: Worldwide launch of Metro 2039

Metro Redux history and upcoming franchise milestone with Metro 2039

The Redux compilation originally launched in 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, bundling rebuilt versions of Metro 2033 from 2010 and Metro: Last Light from 2013. The new initiative mirrors the post-launch support 4A Games previously adopted for Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, which also offered generational improvements at no added cost. The updates arrive ahead of the next major chapter in the series, Metro 2039, scheduled to release on February 4, 2027.

Technical specifications and minimum hardware requirements for the updated PC version have not yet been published by 4A Games, with system details scheduled to appear closer to launch. The publisher has also not confirmed whether the updated builds will entirely replace existing Redux store listings on digital storefronts.
