Sean Combs has been placed in solitary confinement at the federal prison FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The 56-year-old former music executive, who is serving a 50-month sentence, was relocated following accusations that he used outside funds to secure contraband items and personal services from fellow inmates.

The administrative transfer occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, sending Combs to the Special Housing Unit while correctional authorities conduct an internal inquiry into unauthorized goods circulating inside the low-security facility.

According to accounts from four former inmates assigned to the same housing area, Combs routinely bypassed prison rules by arranging payments through outside contacts. Relatives or associates outside the penitentiary deposited thousands of dollars per month into the commissary accounts of other prisoners to pay for labor and illicit goods. These arrangements allegedly provided Combs with customized meals including curry chicken, empanadas, and pizza, along with specialized laundry services and Chinese-style massages.

The former inmates also stated that Combs had access to an unauthorized mobile phone used to browse social media platforms and personal photographs. Furthermore, he reportedly utilized a modified tablet computer to watch movies and documentaries, including a production about his own legal downfall produced by Curtis Jackson. Other prohibited items detailed in the accounts included prescription antidepressant medication, specifically Remeron, and premium bottles of Hennessy cognac consumed during weekends.

Federal Bureau of Prisons response and defense statements

The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to address Combs’s specific housing status, stating that the agency does not comment on individual confinement conditions, investigations, or disciplinary sanctions for safety, privacy, and security reasons. However, prison officials stated that illicit mobile devices, narcotics, and weapons represent persistent operational challenges across federal institutions.

Combs’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, questioned the origin and circulation of internal accounts from the penitentiary. “There is something odd about all of this. Someone was apparently able to record Sean inside the prison, and numerous stories continue to emerge from inside the facility in real time. Yet the focus inevitably lands on the celebrity because he is the person everyone recognizes,” Engelmayer said in a statement.

Engelmayer added that the continuous public focus distorts ordinary correctional realities, stating that Combs continues to serve his term while awaiting a ruling from the appellate court.

Sean Combs timeline and projected release dates

Combs entered federal custody following his arrest on September 16, 2024, in New York, and spent 14 months detained prior to his jury trial. In July 2025, a federal jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act related to organized gatherings. His initial projected release date was set for June 2028, but earlier projections were repeatedly adjusted downward due to administrative credits earned through prison programming.

Administrative inquiry and unresolved matters

Prison administration officials handle placement in the Special Housing Unit as a standard administrative measure while investigating the introduction of contraband, rather than an immediate final disciplinary ruling. It remains unconfirmed whether Combs will face additional federal criminal charges for possession of unauthorized devices or if authorities will revoke accumulated good conduct credits that previously shortened his term. Additionally, authorities have not identified the correctional staff members alleged by inmates to have facilitated the entry of alcoholic beverages into the facility.

Combs’s legal team has appealed the criminal conviction in federal court, and the defense continues to await a ruling on the appeal.
