The global television premiere of Black Clover season 2 arrived this Saturday (3), ending an official five-and-a-half-year hiatus for the popular animated fantasy franchise. Viewers around the world can watch the return episode simultaneously on digital screens via the Crunchyroll streaming service.
Television broadcasting of the series resumed after the conclusion of the initial production run in March 2021. Producers previously paused the weekly serial to allow the print storyline adequate time to advance without creative interruption.
The new narrative phase focuses on the allied military invasion of the Spade Kingdom and the impending battle against the Dark Triad rulers. This conflict endangers neighboring territories and compels the main characters to unlock higher levels of magical strength.
Studio Pierrot continues handling primary animation production under a confirmed television order of 26 episodes. The studio gathered its core creative staff following intermediate cinematic projects to oversee this extended season.
The storyline picks up unresolved plot developments from the initial series while launching an immediate mission to free captured military captains. Series director Ayataka Tanemura shared his thoughts on the debut through an official statement: “I’ll be directing again! Asta and everyone are finally back after a long wait! We’re pushing ourselves to the limit to show you an even more powerful version of them! Please support Asta and everyone in their new adventures!” said Tanemura.
Broadcast schedule across international streaming and Japanese television
Fans can follow new episodes each week through both linear television networks and video-on-demand services. The international simulcast begins shortly after the domestic Japanese broadcast concludes on TV Tokyo, preserving a fixed Saturday release calendar for viewers.

Spade Kingdom invasion sets up high-stakes rescue mission for Clover Knights
The narrative direction of the new episodes was summarized by the anime production committee during its seasonal presentation. “The Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom prepare to rescue Yami and the others, who were kidnapped by the Dark Triad,” the production team stated in an official announcement.
Following their demonic binding ritual, Asta and his companion Liebe undergo rigorous training to master their shared form known as Devil Union. At the same time, Yuno completes demanding personal conditioning to confront the antagonist Zenon and counteract the devastation inflicted on his military squad during the opening border skirmishes.
Returning creative crew adapts completed manga following five-year hiatus
Technical execution remains based at Studio Pierrot, the animation firm that produced the original 170 television episodes broadcast between 2017 and 2021. Keiichiro Ochi took on responsibilities for series composition and screenplay writing, while voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara returned to voice the protagonist Asta.
Musical themes for the new season include the song “Kienai Riyū,” recorded by Japanese rock band Wanima as the opening track. Pop ensemble One or Eight provides the closing musical theme with their song titled “Yellow Brick Road”.

The temporary television conclusion on March 30, 2021, took place to ensure the weekly anime adaptation did not overtake the published manga written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata. During the broadcast break, the franchise released the animated feature film “Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King” in 2023, also directed by Tanemura. Tabata formally concluded the original manga run on May 1, 2026, in Jump GIGA magazine, providing a finalized canonical ending for the television adaptation.
Episode numbering systems differ between streaming catalogs and official archives
Numerical cataloging for the series varies across international distribution platforms and television databases. Streaming platforms list the premiere as episode 1 of season 2, whereas Japanese broadcast guides and official chronological archives maintain continuous counting, registering the release as episode 171 of the overall franchise.
Production partners have not disclosed how the 26 commissioned episodes will be divided across the upcoming story arcs. Scheduling details regarding potential broadcast splits between consecutive parts remain subject to future network programming announcements.
