A 2-year-old girl died after arriving without vital signs at the Unidade de Pronto Atendimento (UPA) in Novo Gama, Goiás, on Wednesday (4). Her stepfather, 23-year-old Felipe de Souza Neckel da Silva, was arrested in flagrante at the unit after health workers found several bruises and serious injuries across the child’s body. The girl is Ísis Gabrielly Lemos Nascimento, and the case happened on 4 November 2026.
The death caused strong distress among residents of the area. According to the Military Police of the State of Goiás (PMGO), the child suffered an irreversible cardiorespiratory arrest before any medical procedure could begin. The suspect said the girl had slipped during a bath at the family home, but the PMGO said the injuries did not match that account. The girl’s mother was taken to the 1st Civil Police Station of Luziânia to give testimony.
Neighbor rushed the girl to the UPA in a borrowed car
Rafael Lino, 38, was coming back from the bakery when he saw the stepfather holding the unconscious girl and asking for urgent help. When he realized she had collapsed, he ran to another resident’s house to borrow a car and drove straight to the unit.

The scene left everyone on the route shaken. According to the witness, the girl’s skin was purple and she showed no response for the entire trip. Nurses began resuscitation right away, but death was confirmed shortly after she arrived.
Police say the bath story conflicts with medical findings
The commander of the Military Police unit in Novo Gama confirmed that the marks on the body raised immediate suspicion of continued physical aggression. In his first statement, the detained man tried to explain the injuries as a fall in the shower area. Police set that version aside after a preliminary visual assessment by the UPA medical team.
The family history also pointed to possible abuse. The girl’s maternal grandfather, Klinger de Oliveira, 43, said he had noticed earlier bruises on his granddaughter, and that the marks began about 15 days before the death. He said the mother had been living with the suspect for about three months. The PMGO also said the suspect has prior records in Mato Grosso for homicide, drug trafficking, criminal organization and sexual violence, and that these records do not amount to final convictions.
