Rockstar Games will open the pre-download of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, two days earlier than the date previously announced. The launch itself stays on November 19, 2026.
The company said the download file may require up to 212 GB of space, depending on the device. In its official statement, Rockstar wrote: “pre-loading begins globally on Tuesday, November 10 at 12 a.m. GMT.”
PlayStation 5 and Xbox open the download at different times
The start time depends on the console. On PlayStation 5, the pre-download opens at midnight in the local time of each player’s region, so buyers in different countries will get access at different moments. On Xbox Series X|S, the download opens at the same moment worldwide, at 00:00 GMT on the same day. For players in the Brasília time zone, that means the Xbox download becomes available at 21:00 on Monday, November 9, the evening before the official date. The Brasília time is a conversion made by the newsroom from the GMT time published by Rockstar.

Up to 212 GB, with no size per console yet
Rockstar said the pre-download file may take up to 212 GB, depending on the device, but it has not published separate sizes for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Before the official confirmation, leaks had pointed to a file of about 210 GB on PlayStation, close to the 212 GB limit the company later gave. The company has not said whether the size is exactly 212 GB on every device, and it has not detailed any update planned for the first day of release. Players who want to plan storage space will have to wait for the console-specific figures or check the download size on their own console before the date.

Physical editions: sources disagree on the pre-download date
Reports differ on when boxed editions with download codes will be able to pre-download. Some sources say the digital pre-download date of November 10 also applies to these editions, pointing to the Rockstar store page for the version. Other reports say the pre-download for physical copies begins only on November 12, the date those copies reach stores. The newsroom found the same conflict inside Rockstar’s own material: older sections of the support page still cited November 12, while the most recent update points to November 10. Rockstar has not confirmed a pre-download date for physical editions, and this report does not take a side on that point.
Why the pre-download date moved from November 12
Before the announcement, the expected date for the pre-download was November 12, 2026, and the launch was already set for November 19. The change moves the start of the download two days earlier, to November 10, and applies to players who made digital pre-orders, according to the company’s confirmed information. Rockstar’s statement describes the new date as the official one for the digital download, while the physical editions keep their own retail schedule. The move gives players about nine days between the start of the download and the release, a window the company set without detailing why the date changed.
What is still unconfirmed about the download
Rockstar has not published the exact size of the download on each console, nor confirmed whether the file is exactly 212 GB on every device. The company has not said whether the first-day update will add to the size, and it has not detailed any bonus offered at launch. The company has also not said whether it will stagger the delivery of the download on its servers.
