Corinthians did not pay R$41.5 million to midfielder Matías Rojas until this Friday, November 7, 2025. The 45-day deadline established by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) expired without paying off the debt. The player, currently at Portland Timbers, in the United States, chose not to contact FIFA to impose a transfer ban on the club.
Negotiations between the parties remain ongoing for an amicable agreement. Rojas agreed to receive the amount in installments. The main pending issue involves the presentation of payment guarantees by Corinthians.

- Lawyer Rafael Botelho represents Rojas in the negotiations.
- President Osmar Stabile leads discussions for the club.
- Rojas has until January 2, 2026 to formalize a complaint to FIFA.
Source of debt
Matías Rojas terminated his contract with Corinthians in 2024 due to delays in image rights. CAS ordered the club to pay the equivalent of the remainder of the bond, valid until June 2027.
The initial agreement, signed at the beginning of 2024, recognized R$8 million in debts. Corinthians committed to paying off the full contract in case of further delay, which occurred.
Rojas played in 30 games for Timão without mascore goals. Hired in mid-2023, the Paraguayan left the club without relevant offensive contributions.
Current hiring situation
Corinthians faces a ban on registering new players since August 12th. The restriction arises from a debt of R$40 million with Santos Laguna, from Mexico, for the purchase of defender Félix Torres.
The Guidance Council (Cori) authorized a loan of R$100 million last week. The resources aim to settle pending issues, including that of Rojas and the one with the Mexican club.
The club has four cases pending at CAS with previous FIFA convictions. The amounts total around R$44.36 million in debts with other clubs.
Other legal issues
Talleres, from Argentina, charges US$4.334 million for Rodrigo Garro. Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk demands 1.075 million euros for Maycon’s loan.
Philadelphia Union, from the United States, claims US$ 1.5 million for José Martínez. Midtjylland, from Denmark, demands 1 million euros for Charles’ transfer.
These cases await a final decision at CAS following appeals from Corinthians.
Negotiations underway
The conversations prioritize installment conditions acceptable to Rojas. The club seeks to avoid new punishment that would compromise planning for 2026.
Payment guarantees represent the central pointof the discussions. Both parties maintain direct dialogue for resolution before the deadline in January.
Corinthians already has an active restriction due to another debt. Full repayment depends on the approval and release of the authorized loan.
Rojas’ history at the club
Rojas arrived at Corinthians in 2023 with the expectation of strengthening the midfield. The Paraguayan did not respond on the field during his stay.
The termination occurred following allegations of default on image rights. These payments are part of the remuneration of athletes in Brazilian football.
The CAS ruling fixed the total value of the remaining contract. The amount of R$41.5 million reflects the period until the end of the original contract.
