Palmeiras traveled this Wednesday (26) directly from Porto Alegre to Lima, in Peru, where they will compete on Saturday (29) in the final of Conmebol Libertadores against Flamengo. The delegation received reinforcements from the 11 players rested in the 3-2 defeat to Grêmio, in the 36th round of Brasileirão. The match is scheduled for 6pm (Brasília time), at the Monumental stadium.

The preservation strategy adopted by Abel Ferreira allowed physical recovery for the starters before the decisive game. The complete group, including the injured Weverton, Lucas Evangelista and Paulinho, gathered in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul after Tuesday’s match. The charter flight takes off at 1pm and arrival is scheduled for around 7pm.

  • Spared players: Carlos Miguel, Khellven, Gustavo Gómez, Murilo, Piquerez, Bruno Fuchs,
  • Entered during the game against Grêmio: Andreas Pereira and Allan
  • Traveled even injured: Weverton, Lucas Evangelista and Paulinho

Travel prioritizes physical recovery

Coach Abel Ferreira chose to play reserves against Grêmio to avoid wear and tear. The measure guaranteed extra rest for the main athletes in the week of the final.

The group remained in Porto Alegre throughout Tuesday night and headed straight to the airport this Wednesday. The choice avoided another trip to São Paulo and reduced travel time.

Training defines final adjustments

Palmeiras holds activities on Thursday and Friday afternoons at the Alianza Lima stadium. The sessions serve to adjust positioning and confirm the starting lineup.

Felipe Anderson and Sosa compete for a place in attack on the left side. The entry of Allan and Raphael Veiga can change the tactical scheme adopted against Grêmio.

Escalation still presents doubts

Abel Ferreira keeps options open for the offensive sector. The possible formation with centralized Veiga and Allan requires adaptation of pieces at the ends.

Murilo is only suspended in Brasileirão and is free for the final. Gustavo Gómez and Piquerez also return to defense after being preserved.

Concentration starts this Saturday

The squad enters full concentration from Saturday morning. Palmeiras is looking for the fourth Libertadores title in its history.

The team led by Abel Ferreira has never ended the season without winning at least one cup since 2020. The clash against Flamengo marks the last official match of the year.

History favors single decision

Palmeiras has played in three Libertadores finals in the last five years. The team won the 2020 and 2021 titles.

The Monumental stadium has a capacity for around 80 thousand fans. Conmebol confirmed the total public allowed for the match.
