OpenAI has confirmed that it does not test ads on ChatGPT. The company clarified that notifications displayed to users were the result of integrations with third-party applications, and not advertisements. Executivos from the company spoke publicly this Sunday (7).

The suggestions appeared unexpectedly during conversations, generating complaints on social media. The confusion led some users to believe that the platform was preparing the insertion of paid advertisements. OpenAI has temporarily disabled the feature while it makes adjustments.

Origin of the confusion

Users have reported the appearance of promotional cards within ChatGPT. The messages recommended specific apps, such as music and productivity tools. Muitos interpreted the content as the beginning of monetization through advertising.

The functionality, launched in October, allows direct interaction with external apps via prompts. The feature requires the use of the “@” symbol followed by the application name.

Official position

Nick Turley, ChatGPT product lead, posted clarification on his personal account. Ele highlighted that no circulating screenshots represent actual ad testing. The executive reinforced that any future changes will follow a careful approach.

Mark Chen, research director, acknowledged failure in presenting the suggestions. The company has suspended the feature and is working on controls to disable or reduce notifications. Melhorias accuracy are also under development.

Integration functionality

The feature connects ChatGPT to more than 100 partner applications. Usuários can perform tasks such as creating playlists on Spotify or editing documents directly through the interface.

  • Access occurs with the command “@app-name” followed by the instruction
  • Integration remains active for already connected apps
  • Auto-suggestions have been temporarily paused
  • Individual controls will arrive in a future update

OpenAI maintains a focus on neutral user experience.

Ongoing adjustments

Technical teams review the format and frequency of notifications. The aim is to avoid unwanted promotional appearance. Testes internals seek a balance between utility and discretion.

The company collects direct feedback from affected users. Relatórios help define new display parameters.

Monetization history

ChatGPT has had free and paid versions since its commercial launch. The Plus, Team, and Enterprise model generates OpenAI’s core revenue. Integrações expand functionalities without relying on traditional advertising so far.

Next technical steps

Update should bring a clear option to disable suggestions. Usuários will be able to choose the assistant’s level of proactivity. The fix hits web, iOS and Android versions simultaneously.

OpenAI reaffirms its commitment to the trust placed by millions of daily users. Mudanças aim to preserve the product’s central characteristic: direct responses without commercial interference.
