Mercedes-Benz officially presented its latest launch in the electric vehicle segment, the GLB EQ, a seven-seater compact SUV. The reveal took place on December 8, 2025, at an altitude of 2,500 meters at Itália, highlighting the capacity and versatility of the new model.
This vehicle, positioned above the current EQB, was designed to meet the needs of families, combining a robust design with the efficiency of electric propulsion. With increased dimensions, the GLB EQ promises an improved driving experience and greater comfort for all occupants.
Sales of the GLB EQ are scheduled to begin in early 2026, with the German automaker planning a gradual expansion into several global markets. The expectation is that the model will establish itself as a competitive option in the growing electric SUV market.
Expansion and innovative design
The new GLB has a total length of 4.73 meters, surpassing the previous generation by 4.8 centimeters, and a width of 1.86 meters. The wheelbase of 2.89 meters contributes to greater stability and optimized interior space, especially for rear seat passengers.
Inside, the vehicle is equipped with the advanced MB.OS system, which allows remote updates and offers an expanded control panel. The Mercedes-Benz reinforces its environmental commitment by using sustainable materials in the finish, maintaining family functionality with the seven-seat option, which adjusts the trunk to 480 liters.
Performance and electric motorization
The GLB 250+ EQ version offers rear-wheel drive, delivering 200 kW, equivalent to approximately 268 horsepower, and 335 Nm of torque. Essa configuration allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds, ideal for daily use and travel.
For those looking for greater power and adaptability, the 350 4Matic variant incorporates an additional 80 kW front engine, resulting in all-wheel drive. Combined power reaches 260 kW (about 348 horsepower) and 515 Nm of torque, providing greater control and performance in varied terrain conditions.
The 85 kWh NMC battery guarantees a maximum range of 631 km for the GLB 250+ EQ, according to the WLTP cycle, with an average energy consumption between 15.8 and 18.3 kWh/100 km. The two-speed automatic transmission optimizes acceleration and efficiency at higher speeds, complementing the vehicle’s electrical performance.
In 2026, the line will be expanded with the introduction of a mild hybrid version. Esta variant will combine a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a 48V system, available in three power levels: 100, 120 and 140 kW. Ela will feature front- or all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission, as well as an integrated heat pump system that improves energy efficiency in cold climates.
Autonomy and charging technology
The GLB EQ stands out for its fast charging technology, supporting up to 320 kW in direct current (DC). Essa capacity allows you to add 260 km of autonomy in the WLTP cycle in just 10 minutes, and recharging from 10% to 80% is completed in approximately 22 minutes, using compatible infrastructure.
For home charging, the vehicle offers an 11 kW AC charger as standard, with a 22 kW option available for greater agility. The 800-volt architecture of the electrical system contributes significantly to faster charging times, surpassing previous generation 400-volt systems.
Advanced safety and driver assistance
The GLB EQ integrates a range of advanced driver assistance systems, aiming for a safer and less stressful driving experience. Entre, the active braking assistant and semi-autonomous driving features stand out, which help prevent collisions and maintain the trajectory. The system includes traffic sign recognition and lane keeping assistance, which contribute to safety. The MB.DRIVE package offers regenerative braking and a lane-keeping assistance system, with the advantage of remote updates that guarantee constant evolution of features. Para protection in the event of an impact, new central and knee airbags have been added, covering gaps in side impacts and raising occupant protection levels. The 360-degree camera assists with parking and pedestrian detection at low speeds, while the system regulates speed based on traffic signs. In off-road conditions, all-wheel drive distributes torque adaptively, allowing slopes of up to 20 degrees to be overcome.
Market positioning and costs
At Alemanha, the GLB 250+ EQ has a starting price of 59,048 euros, while the 350 4Matic version starts at 62,178 euros. Leasing options include monthly payments of 305 euros, with a 20% down payment, a 36-month contract and an annual limit of 15,000 km.
This SUV competes directly with models such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the BMW iX1, standing out for its greater trunk space and the option of seven seats, an important differentiator in the segment. Embora o Tesla Model Y is a price competitor, the GLB offers superior family versatility.
Pre-launch tests demonstrated that the model outperformed its predecessors in efficiency and charging capacity, including in temperatures of -7°C, setting new performance standards for the category.
Mercedes-Benz strategy for electric mobility
Mercedes-Benz plans to further expand its line of electric vehicles with the launch of the GLB 200 EQ in 2026. The Esta version, with 100 kW of power, will be a more affordable entry-level option, seeking to democratize access to electric mobility.
The automaker also plans to integrate plug-in hybrids, which will feature an electric motor coupled to the gearbox, offering a purely electric range of 70 km. The company projects the GLB as a fundamental pillar in the compact segment.
Mercedes-Benz has ambitious plans to launch 25 EQ models by 2030, expanding production at global factories including China. Essa strategy aims to optimize costs and meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2039, which includes battery recycling.
