Xiaomi announced the end of support for dozens of smartphone models from the Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO lines from 2026, a measure that impacts millions of users globally. Essa decision covers devices launched mainly between 2022 and 2023.

Affected devices will no longer receive system updates and security packages. Esta interruption exposes consumers to increased risks of vulnerabilities and compatibility failures with new applications.

The Chinese giant’s move raises concerns about the longevity and safety of the devices. Popular Séries such as Xiaomi 12 and Redmi Note 12 are among the models that will be discontinued from support.

Xiaomi models with limited support

Several flagship models from the Xiaomi brand will have their support ended from 2026, with some as early as 2025. The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphones, equipped with Snapdragon 8 processors, are among the first to be affected.

Other devices from the Xiaomi 12 series are also on the interrupt list. The Xiaomi 12X and the Xiaomi 12 Lite, for example, will end support in March 2026, affecting the possibility of receiving updates for the Android 15.

The future of the series Redmi Note 12

The Redmi Note 12 series, a best-seller in emerging markets, is recognized for offering a balance between price and performance. Contudo, smartphones in this line are also approaching the end of their support cycle.

The Pro and Pro+ 5G versions of the Redmi Note 12 series will continue to receive updates until October 2026. There is a possibility that these models will be included in updates to HyperOS 2 or Android 15.

On the other hand, the most basic versions, such as the Redmi Note 12 5G and the Redmi Note 12 4G, will have support ended sooner. Updates for the 5G model will be finalized in the first quarter of 2025, while the 4G version will cease support in April 2025.

POCO devices with support deadlines

POCO, a sub-brand of Xiaomi known for offering high performance at competitive prices, is also facing the end of support for some of its models. The POCO F5 5G, launched in 2023 with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor, will have its updates guaranteed until May 2026.

Other important models in the POCO line also have established deadlines for the end of official support. Isso includes devices well received by the public. The end of the support cycle may result in devaluation in the resale market and increased vulnerability.

New Xiaomi update policy

Since 2023, Xiaomi has adjusted its assistance policy for new devices, seeking to align with market trends. Para the latest premium lines, such as the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series, the company plans to offer up to six years of security packages, demonstrating a commitment to the longevity of cutting-edge products. Contudo, this extension does not apply to older models that are already in the process of being discontinued, creating a clear distinction between generations. Anteriormente, smartphones followed a model of three Android system updates and four years of security packages, indicating a strategic review to balance continued innovation and long-term sustainability.

Security and usability risks

Although smartphones may continue to function after official support ends, the lack of updates poses a considerable risk. The main concern lies in security, as devices without the latest patches become more susceptible to vulnerabilities and cyber attacks.

Basic functions, such as calls and internet access, can remain operational. However, data integrity and user privacy can be seriously compromised by a lack of protection against new threats.

The absence of official security updates prevents the correction of flaws that emerge over time. Isso makes devices easier targets for malware and other constantly evolving digital threats.

Additionally, compatibility with critical applications such as banking and financial services may be progressively affected. The overall performance of the device tends to decrease, impacting the daily use experience.

Recommendations for affected users

For owners of models that will end support, there are some important considerations. Although it is possible to seek community-based system updates, these options often involve significant security and instability risks and are not officially recommended.

The main guideline is to migrate to a newer model that still receives official support from the manufacturer. By investing in new versions, users guarantee several years of updates and support, ensuring compatibility with the latest operating systems and features on the application market.

Support End Timeline

Xiaomi has been transparent in providing the end-of-support timeline for many of the affected devices, based on their respective release dates.

  • Series Xiaomi 12 (except T): Primeiro quarter of 2025 (for 12/12 Pro) and March 2026 (for 12X/12
  • Redmi Note 12 basic: Primeiro quarter 2025 (5G) and April 2025 (4G).
  • POCO F5: Maio 2026.
  • Pro and T series (Xiaomi and Redmi): Outubro from 2026.
  • Market overview and future trends

In the Android market scenario, the general trend points towards extending device support cycles. Fabricantes competitors, such as Google and Apple, already offer upgrade policies that can last up to seven years, setting a new standard in the industry.

Xiaomi, by taking a similar approach to its high-end products, signals a commitment to allowing consumers to use their devices for a longer period of time. Milhões users of models that will end support in 2026 are encouraged to consider this change when planning future purchases for long-term security and functionality.
