Heat wave persists in Brazil this Friday with highs above 35°C in several capitals

The atmospheric blockage continues to act on the country’s Centro-Sul this Friday (26), keeping the air hot and stuffy in several regions. Instituto Nacional of Meteorologia (Inmet) extended the orange heat wave danger alert until the end of the day, covering states such as São Paulo, Temperatures remain at least 5°C above the average for December, creating a heat wave phenomenon that has lasted several days.

This Friday, the maximum exceeds 35°C in several capitals, with emphasis on Rio of Janeiro, where thermometers can reach 39°C or 40°C. Em São Paulo, after the historic record recorded in Natal, temperatures are between 34°C and 35°C, with strong sun in the morning and increasing clouds in the afternoon. The combination of heat and humidity increases the thermal sensation, requiring care with hydration and exposure to the sun.

The dry weather pattern predominates in areas of Sudeste and Centro-West, but isolated showers occur at the end of the day in specific points. No Sul, the north of Santa Catarina and Paraná record intense heat, while Rio Grande of Sul shows greater variation, with rain in some areas.

Current conditions in the regions

The Sudeste records the most extreme temperatures this Friday. In the capital of São Paulo, the day starts with sunshine and the heat increases quickly, reaching highs close to 35°C. Pancadas of irregular and localized rain appears in the afternoon, but does not significantly alleviate the sweltering weather.

In Rio of Janeiro, firm weather predominates, with strong sun and maximum temperatures around 39°C. The feeling of heat remains high, and the city council is keeping an eye on health risks.

In Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte has highs of 33°C, while Triângulo Mineiro faces higher values, with open skies for most of the day.

Heat wave warning in effect

Inmet maintains the orange warning for eight states until Friday evening. Esse warning indicates danger due to persistently high temperatures, with health risks such as dehydration and cardiovascular problems. The heat wave mainly affects the Centro-South, where atmospheric blocking prevents the advance of cold fronts.

In Centro-West, Goiânia records highs of 33°C, with muggy weather and isolated showers. Brasília is close to 30°C, with drier air during the day. Campo Grande maintains strong heat east of Mato Grosso of Sul.

In Sul, Curitiba enters hot days, with maximums between 30°C and 33°C, and greater instability. Florianópolis alternates sun and clouds, while areas north of Rio Grande and Sul have alternating showers.

The alert covers regions with a recent history of record temperatures, reinforcing the need for precautions in outdoor activities.

Forecast for Norte and Nordeste

In Norte, temperatures remain high even outside the heat wave. Manaus, Rio Branco and Porto Velho combine heat typical of the season with high humidity, favoring frequent showers. Instability remains, with more organized rain in Acre, Rondônia and Amazonas.

In Nordeste, heat predominates in capitals such as Salvador, Fortaleza and Recife, with maximum temperatures above 30°C and strong sun. Chuvas incidents occur in isolated points, but the interior of Maranhão and Piauí registers greater instability, with a risk of more intense shocks.

Gradual change over the weekend

Starting on Saturday, instabilities advance along the edges of the atmospheric blockage, increasing the risk of storms in several regions. The heat remains present, but humidity increases, forming heavy clouds mainly in the afternoon and at night.

In Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina they face greater susceptibility to intense rain, thunderstorms and gusts of wind. The Rio Grande of the Sul concentrates risk in the northern half.

In Sudeste, irregular showers occur in the interior of São Paulo, south of Minas and Triângulo Mineiro, with the possibility of stronger localized episodes on Sunday.

Risks of intense storms

The advancement of unstable areas increases the potential for high volumes of rain in a short period over the weekend. No Centro-West, Mato Grosso, Goiás and Mato Grosso of Sul pay attention to thunderstorms and strong winds.

At Sudeste, the heat persists, but the atmosphere gradually becomes unstable. Áreas interiors face showers that could cause occasional flooding on Sunday.

In Centro-West, the combination of heat and humidity intensifies the showers in the afternoon and night. Manhãs hot with sun gives way to heavy rain in isolated spots.

The forecast indicates that high temperatures will continue until the beginning of next week in most of these regions.
