Big Fone’s most iconic pranks revisited: Anticipating BBB 2026’s new twists and legendary trickery

Big Brother Brasil (BBB) has consistently delivered moments of high drama and unexpected humor, largely fueled by the enigmatic Big Fone. As the BBB 26 season approaches, slated to premiere on January 12, 2026, the reality show promises significant innovations, including the unprecedented deployment of three Big Fones within the house, a departure from the traditional two previously used until BBB 25.

This upcoming edition introduces a new dynamic where the public will dictate which of the three phones carries the crucial message for the houseguests. This shift in mechanics sets the stage for potentially even more intricate pranks, a hallmark of past seasons that frequently led to viral, comedic, and often stressful scenarios for participants.

The show’s direction has historically capitalized on these “trotes,” or elaborate pranks, using the Big Fone to test the houseguests’ composure and create memorable television. These moments have ranged from bewildering fake calls to unexpected international interventions, cementing the Big Fone’s status as a central element of the show’s entertainment value.

Pranks that fooled houseguests: The infamous Big Fone calls

In the BBB 24 season, director Boninho orchestrated a particularly elaborate Big Fone prank that tested the contestants’ patience and nerves. The phone was set to ring a total of six times, with the initial five calls being mere decoys designed to frustrate and confuse the housemates. Each of these early rings conveyed a message of “line busy” or similar misleading information.

It was only on the sixth and final attempt that a genuine message was delivered, directly nominating a participant for the dreaded Paredão, or elimination round. This drawn-out charade kept houseguests on edge for hours, culminating in Davi answering the first of the deceptive calls, setting the tone for a day filled with anticipation and eventual relief for some, and anxiety for others.

When the party gets pranked: Dennis DJ’s signature move

Musical performances during BBB parties are typically a source of celebration, but in BBB 24, Dennis DJ turned a festive moment into a playful prank. The renowned DJ seamlessly integrated the distinctive Big Fone ringtone into his set, causing immediate confusion and a mad dash among houseguests convinced a real call was underway.

Davi, Alane, and Fernanda were among those who sprinted towards the Big Fone, only to realize they had been cleverly fooled by the musical mix. The realization brought laughter as they returned to the party. This wasn’t an isolated incident; Dennis DJ had previously executed the same prank during his performance in BBB 21, demonstrating a recurring mischievous streak within the show’s entertainment.

International calls and celebrity surprises: Expanding Big Fone’s reach

The BBB 23 edition introduced an unexpected twist when the Big Fone rang with an international flair, delivering a message entirely in Spanish. This unique call announced the imminent arrival of Dani Mendez, a former participant from “La Casa de Los Famosos,” adding a cross-cultural element to the Brazilian reality show.

Cezar Black answered the call, initially dismissing it as a prank to his fellow housemates. However, the message’s content, instructing him to proceed to the “expulsion door” for a “great surprise,” hinted at more than just a simple joke. Moments later, Dani Mendez made her grand entrance into the house, blurring the lines between a mere prank and a significant plot development that reshaped the dynamics within the competition.

Production trickery: Rafael Portugal’s unexpected request

Another notable Big Fone prank unfolded during BBB 21, involving comedian Rafael Portugal, known for his “C.A.T BBB” segment. Lumena and Arthur, stationed vigilantly by the Big Fone, jointly answered a call that seemed to be a logistical mix-up rather than a direct game instruction.

Portugal, posing as someone arriving at Globo Studios, requested an electric car to pick him up from the entrance due to his delay. Lumena, caught off guard, even offered assistance before Portugal quickly realized his “mistake” and abruptly ended the call. The bewildered houseguests were left to ponder the bizarre interaction, with Lumena expressing, “This show is crazy! I’m staying here. Overall, it was nothing,” highlighting the unpredictable nature of the Big Fone.

Big Brother Brazil 2026: A season of unprecedented changes

The upcoming BBB 26 season is poised to be one of the most transformative editions in the show’s history, set to commence on January 12. Beyond the introduction of three Big Fones and public interaction in their activation, the show is integrating a third participant group alongside the traditional Pipoca and Camarote: a lineup of “veterans” from previous seasons.

This move aims to inject fresh dynamics and eliminate what the production refers to as “plants,” or less engaged participants, ensuring a more active and competitive environment. Tadeu Schmidt will continue his role as host, guiding viewers through the season, which is scheduled to conclude on April 21. Furthermore, in an expansive twist, five Glass Houses will be scattered across different regions of Brazil, adding another layer of public engagement and pre-season excitement. The specific names of the “iconic, extraordinary” Camarote and Veteran participants will be revealed on “Big Day.”

What to expect from the upcoming season

With a blend of seasoned reality veterans, new faces, and innovative game mechanics, BBB 26 is set to redefine the viewer experience. The strategic placement of three Big Fones, combined with public control over their messages, ensures that the element of surprise will be more potent than ever. These changes underscore a commitment to evolving the reality format, promising a season filled with unexpected turns, heightened competition, and, undoubtedly, new legendary pranks.
