Caixa Econômica Federal announced the postponement of the Mega draw for Virada 2025 to this Thursday, January 1st, at 10am (Brasília time). The contest, originally scheduled for 10pm on December 31st, was transferred due to the need for operational adjustments caused by the unprecedented volume of registered bets.
The award was confirmed inR$ 1.09 billion, the biggest in the history of the special competition, surpassing the previous mark. Esse value results from the collection accumulated throughout the year and exclusive sales to Mega from Virada, which moved digital channels and lottery outlets intensely.
The peak of transactions reached 120 thousand per second in the online environment and 4,745 per second in physical units. Essa exceptional demand required technical interventions to guarantee the integrity of the process.
Reasons for operational postponement
Caixa explained that the record number of bets created an overload on the processing systems. Equipes techniques worked to stabilize operations and avoid risks during the draw.
Other contests scheduled for December 31, such as Lotofácil, Quina, Lotomania and Super Sete, were also impacted and rescheduled to the same time as Mega and Virada. The broadcast will take place live on the institution’s official channels on YouTube and Facebook.
The decision prioritized security and independent auditing of the event. Apostadores kept bets placed valid until closing at 8pm on December 31st.
New time and live broadcast
The draw will be held at 10am this Thursday at Espaço of Sorte, at São Paulo. Caixa will make the broadcast available on its official social media profiles.
The results will be immediately available on the official Loterias Caixa website after the calculation. Apostadores can check the numbers drawn and the breakdown by range of hits on this platform.
The time change does not change the rules of the special contest. The event maintains the festive character of New Year’s Eve, now at the beginning of 2026.
Special contest rules
Unlike the regular draws of the Mega-Sena, the Mega of the Virada does not accumulate the main prize. Caso no one gets the six tens right, the value is redistributed to the lower bands, starting at the corner.

This mechanic guarantees the full distribution of the prize. Desde 2009, the contest has already awarded 130 bets in the main track throughout its editions.
The minimum bet costs R$6, with six numbers marked. Opções with more tens increases the value and the probabilities of winning.

The majority of the amount comes from the specific collection of bets for Mega of Virada. Parte of the amounts accumulated in regular Mega-Sena competitions throughout the year are also included in the prize.
Recent changes to apportionment rules have increased the percentage allocated to the main range. Quase half of the total lottery revenue is transferred to social areas, such as education, sport and security.

The probability of hitting the jackpot with a minimum bet is one in more than 50 million. Jogos with more numbers improve the chances, reaching one in 1,292 with 20 tens.
Historically, the number 10 has appeared five times in past editions. Frequent Outros include 5, 33 and 36, with four draws each.
Each contest is independent, without influence from previous results. Caixa maintains external auditing to validate randomness.

The drawn numbers will be on the official website shortly after the event. Apostadores check physical or digital tickets on this platform.
Prizes of up to R$2,112 can be redeemed at lotteries. Valores superiors require presentation at Caixa branches, with identification documents.
The deadline for withdrawal is 90 days from the date of the draw. Após this period, the value is directed to Fundo of Financiamento Estudantil.

The 2024 edition paid R$635.4 million, a record until then. In 2023, the prize was R$588.8 million.
Other significant editions include 2022 with R$541.9 million and 2021 with R$378.1 million. The growth reflects increases in revenue and adjustments to the rules.
Mega of Virada is consolidated as the biggest lottery competition in the country. The 2025 premium represents an increase of around 57% compared to the previous year.
