BYD filed recent records in Instituto Nacional from Propriedade Industrial (INPI) that show the restyled version of Dolphin. The model receives updates to the external and internal design, in addition to indicating the possible arrival of an intermediate power configuration.
These images reveal specific changes to the look, such as narrower headlights and redesigned bumpers. The electric hatch also grows slightly in length, reaching 4.28 meters, while maintaining the other body measurements.
The current model sold in the Brasil offers 95 hp and 204 hp options. The novelty fills a gap in the portfolio with a 136 hp electric engine, maintaining maximum speed at 160 km/h.
Changes to the external design
The restyled Dolphin features thinner front headlights connected by a horizontal line. The bumpers gain more aggressive lines, with larger air intakes at the bottom.
The rear receives renewed lights and a new diffuser. Essas changes increase the total length to 4.28 meters, without changing the width, height or wheelbase of 2.70 meters.
Interior and technology news
The cabin abandons the rotating multimedia screen, adopting a larger fixed display. The central console is redesigned with new physical controls and induction charging for cell phones.
Some records indicate the presence of a small refrigerator in the console, an item already available in Chinese versions. The rear suspension becomes multilink, improving comfort and handling.
Intermediate power option
The new configuration features a front electric motor with power equivalent to 136 hp. The battery continues to be of the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type, produced by BYD itself.
This version is positioned between the current Dolphin with 95 hp and the Plus with 204 hp. Ela maintains front-wheel drive and a maximum speed limited to 160 km/h, prioritizing energy efficiency.
Dimensions and body structure
The hatch maintains a width of 1.77 meters and a height of 1.57 meters. The wheelbase remains at 2.70 meters, preserving internal space for five occupants.
The increase in length comes from changes to the bumpers. The eBlade platform continues to be used, with a focus on safety and high autonomy.
BYD strategy in the Brazilian market
The Chinese brand is advancing in the nationalization of its products at the Camaçari factory, at Bahia. The restyled Dolphin should be produced locally from 2026, reducing costs and delivery times.
BYD already leads sales of electrified vehicles in the country, with the Dolphin among the most sold models. The update helps maintain competitiveness against rivals such as GWM Ora 03 and Geely EX2.
The company invests in expanding the dealership network and charging points. The focus remains on affordable prices and advanced technology to attract new consumers.
Direct competitors in the segment
- GWM Ora 03: offers a differentiated design and similar autonomy, with competitive prices.
- Geely EX2: arrives with an affordable proposal and a complete package of driving assistance.
- Renault Kwid E-Tech: maintains entry position, but with lower power.
- Caoa Chery iCar: bet on compact dimensions and urban agility.
Updates to the mechanical assembly
The LFP battery guarantees greater durability and safety compared to other chemistries. The estimated autonomy exceeds 400 kilometers in urban cycle, depending on the configuration.
The 136 hp engine provides more vigorous acceleration than the entry-level version. The energy regeneration system remains adjustable at different levels.
Driving assistance package
Some versions can receive the God’s Eye package, with a LiDAR sensor on the roof. Esse equipment improves the functioning of automatic braking and lane keeping.
At Brasil, the technology still faces cost constraints. BYD prioritizes essential items such as stability control and multiple airbags in all configurations.
Launch prospects and prices
The restyled Dolphin should arrive on the Brazilian market in the last quarter of 2026. Local production in Camaçari will allow adjustments in values to maintain competitiveness.
The intermediate version can start at a range close to R$180,000. The strategy includes varied equipment packages for different consumer profiles.
BYD continues to expand its presence with new hybrid and electric models. The renewed Dolphin reinforces the brand’s position in the electrified compact hatchback segment.
The current model has already accumulated thousands of registered units since its launch. The visual and mechanical upgrade attracts both current and new customers interested in sustainable mobility.
Sales and participation in the electrical market
BYD recorded significant growth in electric vehicle sales in 2025. The Dolphin and Dolphin Mini are among the best-selling in the category in the country.
The electrified vehicle segment represents a growing portion of total registrations. Public and residential charging infrastructure follows the increase in demand.
Chinese manufacturers dominate the leading positions. The arrival of more intermediary options stimulates competition and benefits consumers with better offers.
