The electronic gaming community was surprised by a leak that indicates the possible prices of the new Steam Machine, the long-awaited hardware from Valve scheduled for launch in early 2026.

The listings, discovered on websites Smarty.cz and Alza.cz, detail two models: a version with 512 GB of storage for 19,826 Czech crowns and another with 2 TB for 22,305 Czech crowns. Convertidos, the values are equivalent to approximately US$950 and US$1,070, respectively. Valve has not yet officially confirmed the numbers, which leaves room for speculation as to whether these are final prices or just placeholders.

The new hardware is positioned by the company as a compact, high-performance PC designed for the living room, running the SteamOS operating system. The promise is of performance up to six times greater than that of the Steam Deck portable, consolidating Valve’s strategy of expanding its presence beyond software, offering an integrated and powerful gaming experience for televisions.

Origin of values and market skepticism

Pricing details emerged from source code analysis of product pages not yet published on European retailers’ websites. Embora the pages were not visible to the general public, the internal data contained clear references to the Steam Machine models and their respective costs. Essa prática de cadastrar produtos antes do anúncio oficial é comum no setor, mas nem sempre reflete o valor final que chegará ao consumidor, podendo incluir margens de lucro do revendedor ou ajustes tributários locais.

Industry analysts and more experienced players observe the leaked numbers with caution, remembering that third-party retailers often apply a premium to Valve products. The same website that listed the prices of the Steam Machine, for example, sells the Steam Deck OLED for a considerably higher price than that charged by the Valve in its official store. Essa historical discrepancy fuels the hope that the final price, when announced by the manufacturer, will be more competitive and aligned with the expectations of a larger share of the consumer market.

The power behind Valve’s new hardware

The technical specifications officially released by Valve position the Steam Machine as a robust alternative to last-generation consoles and mid-range PCs. The heart of the device is a semi-customized AMD Zen 4 processor, which has six cores and twelve threads, capable of reaching frequencies of up to 4.8 GHz, guaranteeing processing power for the most demanding games.

In the graphics department, the device will be equipped with a graphics card based on the AMD RDNA 3 architecture, with 28 computing units and 8 GB of dedicated GDDR6 video memory. Essa configuration promises to deliver high frame rates and visual quality at high resolutions, optimized for the experience on large screens such as 4K televisions.

To ensure the fluidity of the system and applications, the Steam Machine will have 16 GB of DDR5 RAM. Storage is provided by high-speed NVMe drives, with 512 GB or 2 TB options, which ensure reduced loading times. Flexibility is a key point, as the internal storage can be upgraded by the user.

Storage expansion is also facilitated by a high-speed microSD card slot. Connectivity is another highlight, with multiple USB ports that include variations of 3.2, 3.0 and 2.0 standards, allowing the connection of a wide range of peripherals, from additional controls to keyboards and mice for a complete PC experience in the room.

First reactions and the cost-benefit debate

The gaming community’s reaction to the leak was immediate and polarized. Muitos players expressed concern about the suggested prices, considering the price above US$950 as a significant obstacle to mass adoption of the device. Discussions quickly turned to comparisons with current desktop consoles like the PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X, which offer cutting-edge performance for a substantially lower cost.

Part of consumers expected a more aggressive price positioning from the Valve, with previous speculation pointing to a range around US$700. The perception is that, as it approaches the thousand-dollar mark, the Steam Machine begins to compete directly with entry-level gaming PCs, which could limit its appeal to the public looking for the simplicity and cost-benefit of a console.

On the other hand, a portion of enthusiasts argue that the hardware specifications justify the investment. Para this group, the Steam Machine should not be seen just as a console, but as a compact and optimized gaming PC, which offers unrestricted access to the entire Steam library and the flexibility of the SteamOS system, without the subscription fees for online games.

Valve’s second attempt at the living room console market

This new launch marks the return of Valve to the concept of Steam Machines, an initiative originally launched in 2015 that was not as successful as expected. Naquela time, the company’s strategy was to license the name and the SteamOS system so that partner manufacturers, such as Alienware and Zotac, could produce their own hardware. The result was fragmented specifications, varying prices, and an inconsistent user experience. Além Additionally, SteamOS adoption was limited, and Windows’s game compatibility technology, Proton, was still in its early stages, resulting in a much smaller native game library. The new Steam Machine, however, represents a completely different approach. Agora, Valve is in full control of production, guaranteeing fixed specifications and a quality standard, taking advantage of all the learning gained from the development and commercial success of the The evolution of the Proton transformed the scenario, allowing thousands of games developed for the Windows to run perfectly on the Valve operating system, eliminating one of the main barriers of the first generation.

Positioning against direct competitors

With its promise of performance, the Steam Machine enters into direct competition with the most powerful consoles on the market. The six-fold increase in performance compared to the Steam Deck puts it at a level close to that of intermediate gaming computers, with the difference of being a product optimized for the living room, with a friendly interface and a “plug-and-play” experience.

The great asset of the Valve device is its open ecosystem. Diferentemente of the PlayStation and Xbox platforms, Steam Machine users have access to a vast and often cheaper library of games, without the need to pay for monthly subscriptions to enable online multiplayer mode on most titles, which represents significant savings in the long term.

External factors that impact the final cost

The global production scenario for electronic components can also influence the final price of the device. The shortage of certain components, such as high-performance RAM, has been a challenge for the entire industry in 2026, affecting schedules and increasing manufacturing costs for several technology companies, including rival console makers.

What to expect from the official launch

According to the official announcement from Valve, the Steam Machine is scheduled to hit the market in the first quarter of 2026. The initial launch will include strategic markets such as Estados Unidos, Canadá and several Europa nations, with plans to expand to other regions in the following months, depending on production capacity and distribution logistics.

The user experience will be expanded with the integration of a new controller and a virtual reality headset, which will be sold separately, expanding the immersion possibilities. The Valve also guarantees that all games currently verified for the Steam Deck will run flawlessly on the Steam Machine, offering a vast library of compatible titles from day one of release.
