Toyota officially presented the sixth generation of the RAV4, one of the best-selling SUVs in the world, which arrives with significant updates in design, technology and, most importantly, powertrain. The model reinforces the Japanese brand’s commitment to electrification, offering hybrid and plug-in hybrid sets that promise to combine high performance with energy efficiency, consolidating its leadership position in the segment.
With more than 15 million units sold globally since its launch in 1994, the RAV4 is reinventing itself to meet growing demands for more sustainable and connected vehicles. The new generation arrives at a strategic moment, seeking to regain the top of the sales rankings that has been threatened in recent years by the rise of fully electric competitors.
The first units of the new model are expected to arrive on international markets in the first half of next year. The Toyota strategy focuses on delivering a smooth transition to electrification, with hybrid systems that eliminate range anxiety and deliver an enhanced, quieter driving experience.
Renewed and more imposing design
The look of the new generation of the Toyota RAV4 has undergone a notable evolution, adopting more aggressive and contemporary lines that give the SUV a more striking presence. The front has been completely redesigned, featuring a full LED optical assembly with a more tapered shape and a distinct light signature. The front grille, now closed over most of its surface, adopts a diamond pattern that reinforces the brand’s visual identity and improves the vehicle’s aerodynamics.
On the side, the robust profile is accentuated by wider fenders and alloy wheels with exclusive designs, which can reach 20 inches in top-of-the-line versions. The rear also received attention, with lights connected by a horizontal bar that crosses the trunk lid, where the model name appears prominently. The rear bumper, with details that simulate a diffuser, complements the sporty look and contributes to aerodynamic efficiency, reducing noise at high speeds.
Technological and connected interior
The cabin of the new RAV4 has been deeply modernized, with a focus on technology and comfort. The panel adopts a more horizontal and minimalist layout, centered on two large digital screens. The 12.3-inch instrument panel is fully configurable, allowing the driver to choose the information they want to view.
In the center, the new ARENE multimedia center stands out, with a 12.9-inch screen. The system offers a more intuitive interface, wireless connectivity for smartphones and the ability to receive over-the-air updates, ensuring the software is always up to date with the latest features and security improvements.
In addition to the onboard technology, the Toyota improved the quality of the finishing materials, with soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard and doors. The center console has been reorganized to offer more storage space and easy access to controls such as the driving mode selector and induction cell phone charger.
The new generation of the plug-in hybrid system
The highlight of the new generation RAV4 is, without a doubt, its advanced plug-in hybrid system (PHEV), which sets a new standard of efficiency and autonomy in the segment. Equipado with a 22.68 kWh lithium-ion battery, the SUV is capable of traveling for more than 100 kilometers in all-electric mode, according to the test cycle. Esse range allows most drivers to carry out their daily commutes, such as going to and from work, without consuming a single drop of fuel, using the vehicle as a pure electric vehicle. The recharging technology has also been improved, supporting alternating current (AC) chargers of up to 11 kW and direct current (DC) of up to 50 kW, in the latter case, it is possible to recover 80% of the battery charge in approximately 30 minutes. Essa versatility makes the RAV4 PHEV a practical solution for both urban use and longer trips, where the 2.5-liter combustion engine comes into play to guarantee a high and worry-free total range.
Performance and efficiency for all profiles
Toyota structured the new RAV4’s engine line to meet different needs. The entry-level version has a conventional hybrid system that combines the 2.5 gasoline engine with an electric motor to deliver 183 horsepower, with front-wheel drive. Este provides acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds and an average consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 km.
For those looking for more performance, plug-in hybrid options are the best option. The first of them offers 268 horsepower with front-wheel drive, already guaranteeing superior performance. However, it’s the top-of-the-line version that impresses, with an intelligent all-wheel drive system (AWD-i) that adds an electric motor to the rear axle.
This configuration brings combined power to an impressive 308 horsepower. With this strength, the SUV transforms into a true sports car, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, a surprising number for a vehicle of its size and family proposal.
The electronic management of the AWD-i system intelligently distributes torque between the axles, ensuring maximum traction on low-grip surfaces and greater stability in curves, providing safe and dynamic driving in any situation.
Available versions and equipment
The new RAV4 range will be divided into four main trim levels: Advance, Spirit, Limited and the sporty GR Sport. Desde the entry-level version Advance, the SUV is already well equipped, including 18-inch wheels, parking sensors and heated front seats, in addition to the complete safety package.
The intermediate versions Spirit and Limited add sophistication and technology items, such as two-tone paintwork, 20-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof. Já the GR variant
Safety as top priority
Safety is a fundamental pillar in the new RAV4, which comes equipped with the latest generation of the Toyota Safety Sense package. The system includes up to 15 driving assistants, with emphasis on the improved autonomous emergency braking system, which now detects pedestrians and cyclists with greater precision, even in low light conditions, and the lane keeping assistant, which acts more smoothly and naturally.
Market positioning and expectations
With this new generation, the Toyota RAV4 is positioned in a highly competitive way to face strong rivals such as the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. The brand’s strategy is clear: use its reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs as a basis, now adding a strong technological appeal and, most importantly, a plug-in hybrid option with segment-leading electric range.
The model arrives to reinforce Toyota’s dominance in the hybrid market and prove that it is possible to combine the practicality of a family SUV with the efficiency of an electric vehicle for daily use. The expectation is that global sales will continue on a growth trajectory, maintaining the RAV4 as a global reference in its segment.
