Independent studio Genigods Lab has officially announced the development of Genigods: The title is being created with Unreal Engine 5 technology and is scheduled for release in 2028, arriving on PlayStation 5 and PC, with a special optimization being developed in partnership with Sony.
The player’s journey follows the evolution of an Pérola Espiritual, forged by the goddess Nüwa, who transforms into the powerful warrior Nezha. The gameplay focuses on an agile and fluid combat system, highlighting battles against colossal deities that occur continuously between the heavens and the earth, uninterrupted by loading screens.
The narrative unfolds in a world plunged into chaos after the fall asleep of Pangu, the creative entity. With the earth being battered by ten scorching suns and monsters emerging from a dimensional abyss, players take on a crucial role in restoring balance.
A mythological universe in danger
At the center of the adventure is Coração’s Coração, a sentient companion who not only guides the protagonist, but also plays a key role in solving complex puzzles and amplifying Nezha’s divine powers throughout the campaign.
The main mission unfolds into three interconnected narrative arcs: repair the celestial vault using the Pedras of Cinco Cores, unveil the mysterious origin of the protagonist herself and, finally, seal the dangerous space-time rifts that opened in the
Legendary allies and visceral combat
During the journey, Nezha will have the help of iconic figures from Chinese folklore. Legendary Heróis such as Yi, the divine archer who brought down the surplus suns, and Yu, the Grande, known for taming catastrophic floods, will appear at crucial moments to help fight the forces of chaos.
The combat system is designed to be intuitive and dynamic, deliberately moving away from punishing Soulslike-style mechanics. The main inspiration, according to the developers, is the fast pace and fluidity found in classics of the genre, such as God of War 3.
This approach aims to provide an experience of power, where the player feels in control of a rising deity, capable of executing spectacular combos and facing multiple enemies with agility and precision.
Fighting mechanics and the philosophy of water
The gameplay stands out for its strategic alternation between ground and air combat postures. On the ground, the Lança of Ponta of Fogo is the main weapon, allowing a combination of short-range attacks, devastating combos and precise parries to defend against enemy attacks.
When the battle takes to the skies, the Rodas of Fogo and Vento spring into action. Este equipment allows Nezha to perform quick attacks and evasive maneuvers in the air, maintaining pressure on flying or large opponents.
A core mechanic is the “Philosophy of Água”, a power system inspired by the principles of Jeet Kune Do, the martial art created by Bruce Lee. Essa philosophy allows the player to channel and manipulate divine energy in different ways.
It is possible to condense this energy to deliver high-damaging piercing blows or release it in expansive waves, ideal for controlling large groups of enemies and creating tactical openings during the most intense confrontations.
Technical optimization for PlayStation
Genigods Lab is working in direct collaboration with Sony engineering to extract maximum performance from the PlayStation 5 hardware. A playable version of the game has already been submitted for evaluation by PlayStation China, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to the platform. The game will fully support the features of the DualSense controller, including detailed haptic feedback to simulate different textures and impacts, as well as the use of adaptive triggers to vary the tension of actions such as firing projectiles or holding down a charged strike.
Furthermore, the title is receiving specific optimizations for the PS5 model Pro, with the aim of guaranteeing stable performance at 60 frames per second, even in the most demanding scenes. Using the Unreal Engine 5 allows the implementation of advanced technologies such as ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and the use of the high-speed SSD for almost instantaneous loading between areas of the game.
World structure and progression
Genigods: Nezha adopts a linear game structure, focused on narrative, but with a central hub that serves as a base of operations. From this location, players can access side quests, interact with characters, and upgrade their equipment and skills. An interesting feature is that the order to face the main bosses can be chosen by the player, which requires preparation and the collection of specific relics to exploit each one’s weaknesses. Character progression is multifaceted, combining the discovery of mythical relics, crafting new equipment, and fusing skills to create new powers. Coração from Água Sagrada, the companion to Nezha, also evolves, unlocking new ways to interact with the environment and overcome exploration challenges. Verticality is a pillar of level design, with sections where the player needs to climb the bodies of fallen giant gods, which function as battle arenas with multiple stages. The Árvore of
Focus on single-player experience
The studio confirmed that the main campaign will last approximately 25 hours, reaching up to 50 hours for players who want to complete all the secondary missions and discover all the secrets. The game will feature three distinct endings, which will be determined by choices made at key moments, aligned with different schools of philosophical thought, influencing not only the conclusion of the story, but also the powers and fighting styles available to Nezha. An New Game+ mode will be available to encourage replayability, allowing you to collect items from alternative narrative routes. Genigods Lab reinforced that Genigods: Nezha is a traditional premium experience, discarding any live-service model or gacha mechanics, and will offer more than 20 customizable costumes based on other Chinese mythical heroes.
