BYD plans to launch the Song Pro hybrid flex in the second half of 2026. The model will be the first to have full production at the Camaçari factory, at Bahia, including welding, painting and stamping processes.

This step marks significant progress in the nationalization of the Chinese automaker’s operations in the Brasil. The Bahian unit already assembles other branded vehicles, but the full integration of these processes will only take place this year.

BYD’s senior vice president, Alexandre Baldy, confirmed the information during a visit to the facilities. Full production begins in July, initially in the testing phase, and also covers the King and Dolphin Mini models.

Factory expansion in Camaçari

The Camaçari plant represents BYD’s largest automotive complex outside of China. The company invested R$5.5 billion in the recovery of the old Ford plant, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the region.

Work on the painting, welding and stamping warehouses is progressing on schedule. Esses sectors allow Song Pro flex to be manufactured entirely in Brasil, reducing dependence on imports.

The unit has produced more than 25 thousand vehicles since the start of operations. Modelos like Dolphin Mini and King leave the current assembly line, but with partial processes.

Flex hybrid system details

The Song Pro hybrid flex uses plug-in technology adapted for Brazilian fuel. The set combines a 1.5 aspirated flex engine with electric motors, offering significant electric autonomy and efficiency in the use of ethanol or gasoline.

The flex version represents BYD’s global innovation, developed specifically for the national market. Testes calibration occurs at Brasil to optimize ethanol performance.

  • Approximate combined power of 223 hp
  • Maximum torque of around 40.8 kgfm
  • Battery with capacity of up to 18 kWh in some configurations
  • Electric range of over 100 km in pure mode

These numbers position the model as a competitive option in the medium SUV segment.

Initial full production models

BYD prioritizes three vehicles to begin full manufacturing in Camaçari. The Song Pro flex leads the transition, followed by the King sedan and the Dolphin Mini electric hatch.

The Dolphin Mini is already the brand’s most affordable electric car in the country. Sua national production contributes to lower prices and higher sales volume.

The King, in turn, serves the plug-in hybrid sedan segment. The full nationalization of these models strengthens BYD’s presence in different categories.

The strategy allows the company to achieve higher volume targets from 2026 onwards. Projeções indicate a significant increase in the plant’s annual capacity.

Economic benefits for Bahia

The implementation of BYD transforms Camaçari into an industrial hub for electrified vehicles. The project creates job opportunities and encourages local suppliers.

National suppliers already participate in the production chain. The nationalization target reaches 50% by the end of the year, with the possibility of a progressive increase.

The automaker’s presence attracts additional investments in the region. Empresas of automotive components install units close to the factory.

The Bahian government monitors the development of the complex. Parcerias public-private support the infrastructure necessary for full operation.

Advances in the nationalization of components

BYD accelerates the process of local content in its vehicles. Peças reviews are now produced in Brasil, reducing logistical costs and exchange rate impacts.

Batteries and electrical modules receive special attention in the nationalization plan. Parcerias with Brazilian suppliers makes this transition possible.

The Song Pro flex directly benefits from this strategy. Componentes as a locally printed and painted body ensures greater price competitiveness.

The automaker projects to achieve high levels of national integration by 2027. Esse movement aligns the Brazilian operation with market demands and government incentives.

Positioning in the Brazilian market

The launch of the Song Pro flex reinforces BYD’s leadership in plug-in hybrids in the country. The current model is already among the best-selling in the category.

The flex version attracts consumers concerned about fuel costs. Compatibility with ethanol offers an advantage in biofuel-producing regions.

Competitors watch BYD’s movement closely. Outras automakers accelerate electrification plans to keep pace with China.

The flex hybrid medium SUV fills a gap in the national portfolio. Consumidores gain an advanced technological option with local production.

Volume and export prospects

The factory’s full capacity of Camaçari allows for greater ambitions. BYD plans to increase production to hundreds of thousands of units annually in the coming years.

Part of the production can serve neighboring markets. The strategic location of Bahia facilitates export logistics to América Latina.

The Song Pro flex has the potential to become a reference in efficiency. Real Testes in Brasil validate the adapted hybrid system.

The brand maintains a focus on continuous innovation. Atualizações in design and technology accompany the launch of the nationalized version.

BYD consolidates its operation in the Brasil with the Song Pro flex produced in Camaçari. Complete production begins a new phase of sustainable growth.
