Chinese studio Genigods Lab has officially announced the development of Genigods: Nezha, a new single-player action RPG that promises a deep immersion into Chinese mythology. The title is being created with Unreal Engine 5 technology and is scheduled for release in 2028, with versions confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC. The production relies on direct collaboration with Sony to optimize the experience on the platform.

The plot follows the journey of an Pérola Espiritual, forged by the goddess Nüwa, who evolves until she becomes the powerful warrior Nezha. The game stands out for an agile combat system and epic battles against colossal gods, with seamless transitions between land and air clashes, offering large-scale dynamics.

Set in a chaotic world after the fall of the creator entity Pangu, the narrative places the player in a desolate scenario, where ten suns punish the earth and monsters emerge from an abyss. The player will have the help of Coração and Pérola Espiritual, a companion who helps solve puzzles and amplify powers.

A mythological journey reimagined

The main campaign of Genigods: Nezha is structured around three central missions that define the fate of the protagonist and her world. The first task is to repair the heavens using the Pedras of Cinco Cores, a classic element of Nüwa mythology. Simultaneamente, the player must unravel the mysteries about the origin of Nezha itself, connecting its existence to the cosmic events that shook the universe.

The third mission involves sealing the space-time rifts that have opened in Abismo from Retorno, preventing hordes of monsters from continuing to invade the mortal plane. Throughout this journey, legendary figures from Chinese culture will emerge to assist the protagonist at crucial moments. Entre they are Yi, the divine archer known for bringing down surplus suns, and

Dynamic combat and water philosophy

The combat system is designed to be accessible and fluid, deliberately moving away from punishing Soulslike-style mechanics. The main inspiration, according to the developers, is the fast pace and the feeling of power found in classics like God of War 3, prioritizing continuous action and spectacular combos.

Gameplay is divided between ground and aerial combat stances. On the ground, Nezha uses Lança from Ponta from Fogo to launch short-range combos and execute precise defenses. Já in the air, the Rodas of Fogo and Vento allow quick attacks and superior mobility, ideal for facing flying or large enemies.

A core mechanic is the “Philosophy of Água”, inspired by the concept of Jeet Kune Do from Bruce Lee. Esse system allows the player to channel divine power to perform temporary abilities. It is possible to condense this energy for high-damage piercing strikes or release it in area movements, controlling large groups of opponents strategically.

Technical optimization for PlayStation 5

The partnership between Genigods Lab and Sony ensures that the game takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5’s hardware capabilities. A playable version of the title has already been submitted to the PlayStation China team, and development includes full support for DualSense controller functionality.

Players will be able to feel the tension of attacks and the response of the environment through haptic feedback, while adaptive triggers will react differently depending on the weapon or skill used. Essa integration seeks to deepen immersion during combat and exploration.

Additionally, the game is receiving specific optimizations for the PS5 model Pro, with the aim of ensuring stable performance at 60 frames per second, even in the most intense scenes. The use of the Unreal Engine 5 allows the implementation of technologies such as ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and the use of the console’s SSD for practically instantaneous loading.

This technical collaboration aims to deliver a visually stunning and high-performance experience, positioning Genigods: Nezha as one of the graphically standout titles when it launches.

World structure and character progression

The game adopts a linear phase structure, but offers a central hub that serves as the player’s base of operations. From there, it will be possible to accept secondary missions, interact with other characters and improve equipment and skills. Essa approach allows for a focused narrative without the sprawl of a traditional open world.

One of the interesting features is the flexibility in the order in which bosses are fought. The player will be able to choose which challenge to tackle first, but each one will require strategic preparation and the use of specific relics obtained elsewhere in the game, encouraging exploration and planning.

Character progression is multifaceted, combining collecting mythical relics, upgrading equipment, and fusing skills to create new powers. Coração from Água Sagrada, companion to Nezha, also evolves along with the protagonist, unlocking new ways of interacting with the environment and overcoming obstacles.

Narrative, duration and additional content

The main campaign of Genigods: Nezha is designed to last approximately 25 hours. Para players who want to explore all available content, including side missions and collecting all items, the duration can reach 50 hours.

The game will feature three different endings, which will be determined by the player’s choices related to different schools of philosophical thought present in the narrative. Essas’s decisions will not only alter the outcome of the story, but also influence Nezha’s powers and fighting style. Após completion, an New Game+ mode will be available, allowing players to begin a new journey to collect items from alternative routes.

The studio reinforced that the title is a traditional premium experience, ruling out any business model such as continuous service (live-service) or sweepstakes mechanics (gacha). Para expand customization, more than 20 costumes based on other mythical heroes from Chinese culture can be unlocked.

Plans for an ambitious trilogy

The Genigods Lab team revealed that Genigods: Nezha is just the first chapter of a planned trilogy, whose development is expected to span a decade. The ambitious goal is to explore the entire pantheon of Chinese creation myths, from primordial events to the establishment of celestial order. The developers expressed a desire to make these legends, often complex and little known in the West, more accessible and exciting through a modern interactive format. Este The first game lays the groundwork, presenting a world in disarray and the rise of one of its most iconic heroines. Future sequels promise to expand this universe, introducing new gods, kingdoms and cosmic conflicts, with the intention of creating a definitive saga about Chinese mythology in video games.

Customization and replay details

Customization in Genigods: Nezha goes beyond the visual aspect and directly impacts gameplay. Relics obtained in secondary missions are essential for creating strategic builds, allowing you to exploit specific weaknesses against the more than 60 types of enemies present in the game. Difficulty modes will include a modern option, which will make complex combos easier for less experienced players. The opponents’ artificial intelligence is dynamic, adapting in real time to the tactics used by the player, which promises to keep the challenges interesting and unpredictable. The scenario will also have destructible elements and areas for free exploration in the colossal bodies of fallen gods, such as Pangu, enriching exploration without diluting the narrative focus.
