Volkswagen has released the first images of its next major launch in the sports utility vehicle segment, the Teramont Pro. The model appears with a more square and imposing aesthetic, anticipating the lines that should dictate the renewal of the brand’s global line and serving as a direct preview for the next generation of the Atlas in the Western market.
Aesthetic evolution and modern platform
Built on the MQB Evo architecture, the vehicle preserves its generous wheelbase of 2,980 mm, which ensures competitive interior space for the segment. The front features a new prominent front grille, integrated with LED optical clusters that form a “C”-shaped light signature, giving the whole a more technological and aggressive appearance, complemented by vertical air intakes in the bumper.
At the rear, the design follows the trend of visual connectivity, featuring a light bar that joins the headlights and crosses the entire trunk lid. The automaker’s logo is illuminated, reinforcing the vehicle’s nocturnal identity, while the exhaust outlets have been hidden to create a cleaner, more sophisticated look, in line with contemporary design demands.
Mechanical performance and energy efficiency
The main technical change lies in the engine strategy, marking the end of the traditional naturally aspirated V6 engine offering for this line. The automaker chose to equip the new SUV with the fifth generation of the 2.0 turbo EA888 engine, designed to deliver greater energy efficiency without sacrificing performance.
Preliminary data indicates that the new engine will deliver around 272 horsepower and a torque of 400 Nm, surpassing the numbers of the previous model. The automatic transmission works in conjunction with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, ensuring that the reduction in engine size is compensated by more agile power delivery and more dynamic driving.
Connectivity and internal configuration
The interior of the utility vehicle has been completely redesigned to prioritize the digital experience, adopting a floating instrument panel and a large central infotainment screen. The cabin maintains the standard seven-seat configuration, focusing on passenger comfort and cargo versatility, essential elements to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Palisade and Honda Pilot.
With launch scheduled for April in the Asian market, the model should arrive with estimated prices between 40 thousand and 55 thousand dollars, depending on the version. The arrival of this SUV signals the direction that Volkswagen will take globally, focusing on smaller and more efficient engines, combined with a robust technological package to maintain relevance in an increasingly competitive market.
