The Fiat Toro will gain a new generation in 2029, with production starting in Polo Automotivo of Goiana, in Pernambuco. The mid-range pickup truck will adopt the STLA Medium platform from the Stellantis, the same one used in the new Peugeot 3008.
The change represents a significant evolution in relation to the current Small Wide platform, which will end with the current generation cycle. The STLA Medium debuts on the Brazilian market in 2028 with the launch of the new Jeep Compass and will be shared with other models of the brand, such as the new generations of Jeep Renegade,
The new Toro will maintain the 1.3 Turbo Flex 270 engine as the basis for combustion versions. Essa configuration will continue to offer balanced performance for urban and highway use, with automatic transmission and front or all-wheel drive depending on the version.
STLA platform Medium reaches Brasil in 2028
The STLA Medium architecture was developed to support C and D segment vehicles with a focus on energy efficiency and versatility. Ela allows front- or all-wheel drive configurations, incorporating additional electrical modules on the rear axle when necessary.
In Brasil, the platform arrives first with the updated Jeep Compass in 2028.
The multi-energy structure facilitates adaptation to different types of propulsion without radical changes on the assembly line. Isso optimizes production costs and accelerates the transition to more sustainable models.
Powertrain options include hybrid and electric
The new generation of the Fiat Toro will feature a 48 Volts MHEV mild hybrid system, already scheduled to debut in 2027 in some Stellantis models. Esse feature improves efficiency at low speeds and reduces fuel consumption.
In addition, the pickup will offer a plug-in hybrid version Bio Hybrid, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission. All-wheel drive will come via an electric motor on the rear axle, and the battery will allow recharging via regeneration or external source, with thermal, electric or combined modes.
The 100% electric BEV option is planned for a later cycle, debuting from 2030. Essas alternatives expand the range of the
Design will follow Fiat’s current visual identity
The look of the new Toro will maintain the brand’s aesthetic language, which will be updated with the arrival of the next generation of the Fiat Argo. Elementos robust lines and chrome or darkened details will continue to be present to reinforce the perception of versatility between pickup truck and SUV.
The visual identity will also be applied to the future Pulse, Fastback and Strada. Isso creates coherence in the portfolio and facilitates brand recognition in the sport utility vehicle segment.
The cabin should gain advances in connectivity and materials, in line with the comfort and technology trends seen in recent Stellantis models.
Production on Goiana ends current platform cycle
The Goiana factory will continue to be responsible for assembling the Toro. The transition to STLA Medium will occur gradually, with the end of production of the current generation scheduled for 2029.
This change coincides with investments by Stellantis in Brasil to modernize lines and introduce advanced technologies. The current platform Small Wide reaches the limit of its cycle after years of success in the national market.
Maintaining local production guarantees jobs and an established supply chain, benefiting the regional economy.
Intermediate pickup truck market gains technical reinforcement
The Fiat Toro has led the segment since its launch, combining SUV features with a practical bucket. The new generation arrives at a time of greater competition, with rivals adopting electrification and modern platforms.
The adoption of STLA Medium positions the pickup to meet more stringent environmental standards. The offer of hybrid and electric versions broadens the appeal for consumers looking for savings and sustainability.
The pickup truck will continue to be produced on a high scale, maintaining volumes that support its dominant position in the Brasil.
Stellantis release schedule advances
Stellantis plans to introduce several models based on STLA Medium by the beginning of the next decade. Toro is included in this schedule as one of the highlights for 2029.
Other vehicles from Fiat and Jeep will share the same technical base, creating synergies in development and production. Isso accelerates the implementation of innovations across multiple brands.
The strategy reinforces the automaker’s commitment to diversified mobility in the South American market.
