The Japanese automaker surprised the public and the specialized press during the Tokyo Auto Salon by presenting a project that redefines the limits of sports compacts. The new prototype combines the structure of a hatchback with the powerful mechanical package of the brand’s midsize SUV, creating a high-performance vehicle focused on the driving experience and precision engineering.

The model displays an aggressive and functional aesthetic, immediately standing out due to the significant widening of the body. The fenders have been expanded by 145 millimeters, resulting in a total width of 1,880 millimeters, which gives the vehicle a robust presence and greater lateral stability. Além Additionally, the height has been reduced by 20 millimeters to lower the center of gravity and optimize dynamic behavior in high-speed corners.

Technical specifications of the powertrain

The heart of this project lies in the adoption of the e-POWER 4WD system, inherited directly from the Nissan X-Trail. The brand’s engineering integrated a 1.5 liter VC-Turbo engine, which acts exclusively as a power generator, delivering 106 kW to power the batteries and electric motors. Essa configuration allows the combustion engine to operate at optimal speed ranges, maximizing efficiency while the electric motors deliver immediate performance.

All-wheel drive is guaranteed by two powerful electric motors: a front unit capable of generating 150 kW and a rear unit delivering 100 kW. The combination results in substantially higher power and torque delivery than the standard version of the model, providing vigorous acceleration and instantaneous throttle response, typical characteristics of high-performance electric vehicles, but without the range anxiety.

Chassis and braking improvements

To cope with the increase in power, the braking system received special attention from engineers in the sports division. The front axle was equipped with four-piston calipers, while the rear has two-piston calipers, ensuring stopping power compatible with the new engine. The vehicle’s total weight rose to 1,490 kg, an increase of approximately 100 kg compared to the base model, justified by structural reinforcements and more robust mechanical components.

The rear suspension maintains the torsion beam, but was recalibrated and reinforced by the Nismo team to support the new dynamic demands. The objective was to preserve the hatch’s characteristic agility, while ensuring the necessary stability for a car with four-wheel drive and high power. 18-inch Rodas with an exclusive design completes the package, housing the enlarged brake discs and improving grip on the ground.

Development and design philosophy

The development of the concept followed the philosophy of applying competition technologies to street vehicles. The Nismo has utilized its know-how in aerodynamics and thermal management to create a “hot hatch” that is not only fast in a straight line, but also capable of delivering consistent lap times on circuits. The integration of mass production components with high-performance parts demonstrates the platform’s versatility.

Internally, the vehicle reflects the sportiness of the exterior, with bucket seats that offer greater lateral support and a steering wheel with a specific finish for better grip. The driver interface has been tuned to provide critical information about the hybrid system’s operation and traction distribution in real time, allowing precise monitoring of the car’s behavior.

Although presented as a concept, the project signals the manufacturer’s intention to expand its line of electrified sports cars. The public reception and the technical feasibility demonstrated at the show suggest that similar solutions can be applied to future production models, keeping the Japanese brand’s tradition of compact and powerful cars alive.
