Toyota announces the launch of the new sixth generation RAV4 PHEV for March 9, 2026 in the Japanese market. The model arrives with a new generation plug-in hybrid system that significantly extends the electric range to around 150 km on a full charge.

The top-of-the-line Z version incorporates the PHEV, while the GR Sport is simultaneously presented with exclusive visual elements. The set delivers a combined power of 242 kW (329 hp) and maintains the ability to function as an external energy source in everyday or emergency situations.

Advanced plug-in hybrid system

The RAV4 PHEV uses a series-parallel plug-in hybrid system based on the 2.5-liter A25A-FXS engine. Essa configuration combines a high-capacity battery with compatible high-power charging, resulting in significant gains in range and performance. Electric range reaches approximately 150 km, well above the 89 km recorded in the previous Crown Estate PHEV. The maximum power of the set reaches 242 kW, improving acceleration and response in different usage scenarios.

The vehicle also acts as an external power source with output of up to 1500 W at 100 V through the connector located in the trunk. With a full battery and full tank, the system can supply energy for approximately 6.5 days with a consumption of 400 W or approximately 7 days in energy priority mode. Essas features increase versatility for camping, outdoor events or home electrical outages.

Main technical characteristics of the PHEV

  • Electric range: around 150 km on a full charge
  • Combined power: 242 kW (329 hp)
  • External power output: up to 1500 W at 100 V
  • Estimated delivery time: 6.5 to 7 days depending on mode
  • Charging: Compatible with high-power stations

These items highlight the model’s focus on efficiency and practicality.

Differentiated design of the GR Sport

The GR Sport version features a glossy black lower front bumper and accent lights that reinforce the sporty identity. The exterior set creates a more aggressive and exclusive look compared to the other variants.

Inside, the lining combines synthetic leather and synthetic suede with special stitching that differentiates the finish from the conventional hybrid model. Esses details aim to deliver a premium, sporty feel without compromising comfort or functionality.

Versatility for everyday use and emergencies

Fast charging reduces the time needed to recharge at high-power public stations. The external supply function expands the possibilities of use in places without access to the conventional electrical network.

The balance between pure electric and hybrid mode optimizes fuel consumption on mixed journeys. Essas solutions serve both urban commutes and longer trips.

Positioning of the Z PHEV version

The Z PHEV variant sits at the top of the range with an emphasis on extended range and high performance. Intelligent system management switches between power sources efficiently. Essas specifications reinforce the Toyota’s commitment to sustainable mobility combined with power and practicality.

Simultaneous launch on the Japanese market

The debut takes place on March 9, 2026 with the PHEV and GR Sport versions arriving at the same time. The event marks the introduction of the sixth generation RAV4 with notable advances in electrification. The diverse offering meets different driving preferences and usage needs.
