The Japanese automaker has officially announced that the life cycle of one of its most iconic compact utility vehicles will come to an end in the domestic market. Após After more than a decade of presence in dealerships, the manufacturing of the vehicle will be definitively halted in February, marking a crucial stage in the restructuring of the company’s product line to pave the way for new technologies and more modern platforms.

Originally launched in February 2015, the model played a fundamental role in popularizing the brand’s urban crossovers, combining sporty design with reduced dimensions. However, the decision to end local production reflects the natural wear and tear of the project in the face of updated competitors and the company’s strategy of avoiding overlapping offers, especially after the consolidation of more recent models that offer greater internal space and energy efficiency.

Strategic change and global context

Although production for the Japanese archipelago has a scheduled end date, the car’s trajectory continues in specific territories. Manufacturing will remain active in Tailândia, supplying markets in Sudeste Asiático and Oceania where demand for this vehicle profile remains stable. Esse movement follows a trend already observed in Europa and América of Norte, regions that stopped receiving the utility between 2021 and 2022 in favor of options more aligned with local emissions and size requirements.

The industrial reorganization aims to free up resources and production capacity for the development of a new generation of automobiles. The company plans to focus its efforts on electrified and hybrid vehicles, with important launches expected from 2027 onwards. The discontinuation of the old model is seen as a necessary step to modernize the portfolio and increase competitiveness in a global scenario that requires rapid technological adaptation.

Impact on consumers and sales network

With the schedule set, dealers in Japão were instructed to manage final orders cautiously. The availability of new units will depend exclusively on remaining stocks and the last production slots scheduled by the deadline. Consumidores interested in purchasing a brand new vehicle must anticipate their decisions, as there will be no inventory replacement after the assembly line closes.

The end of this compact SUV’s offering symbolizes the end of a successful chapter for the manufacturer, which used the model as a gateway for many customers. Agora, the focus is entirely on consolidating utilities that offer greater added value and are in line with the sustainability and innovation goals projected for the second half of the decade.
