An intense fireball crossed the sky in several regions of Bélgica and the north of Vosges and Alsácia. Centenas of people reported seeing a bright light streak across the sky at high speed, followed by a persistent streak of light that lasted several seconds.

Witnesses described the event as an exceptionally intense shooting star, with a brightness capable of illuminating the surroundings during twilight. The object moved from southwest to northeast, allowing observations over a wide geographic range. Especialistas confirmed that it was a meteoroid entering the Earth’s atmosphere at speeds exceeding 100 thousand kilometers per hour, heating up and generating the characteristic flash.

What explains the intense shine of the bolide?

The bolide appeared when a rocky space fragment, possibly the size of an approximate fist, penetrated the atmosphere at an altitude of more than 100 kilometers. Friction with the air caused extreme heating, resulting in partial disintegration of the material within a few seconds.

The exceptional luminosity allowed the phenomenon to be seen simultaneously in several distant locations. The trace left in the sky remained visible for longer due to the ionization of the air along the path.

Witness accounts in different regions

Residents of Malonne, in the region of Namur, reported a silent and rapid passage of bright light. Em Hannut, observers noticed the formation of a luminous tail that stretched across the night sky.

In the area of Werbomont, the event lasted several seconds, with descriptions of a large meteor. Similar Relatos came from points on França, like Vosges, where the object passed over forested areas without producing an audible sound.

Scientific confirmation and characteristics of the event

Astronomers from the Société astronomique of Liège observed the bolide from the La Fosse observatory, in Manhay. Expert Pierre Ponsard explained that the object fragmented into several pieces during atmospheric entry, lasting a total of 3 to 4 seconds.

The phenomenon did not generate a noticeable sound explosion in most locations. The absence of noise indicates that the disintegration occurred at high altitude, without larger fragments reaching lower layers of the atmosphere.

Geographic range and international observations

The bolide has been registered in multiple European countries, including Alemanha, Luxemburgo and Países Baixos. Centenas of reports reached organizations like International Meteor Organization, confirming the broad visibility of the event.

In some German regions, smaller fragments hit the ground, causing minor damage to structures such as roofs. Nenhum injuries were reported, and searches for recovered meteorites took place immediately after the phenomenon.

Difference between bolide, meteor and asteroid

A bolide represents a meteor of high magnitude, greater than -4, with a brightness comparable to or greater than that of full Lua in some cases. Diferencia is a larger asteroid, as it refers to the luminous phenomenon caused by atmospheric entry.

The term meteoroid designates the solid object before entering the atmosphere, while meteor corresponds to the luminous trail observed. Meteorito refers to the fragments that eventually survive and reach the Earth’s surface.

Public reactions and initial speculation

Internet users shared images and videos of the event on social media, with initial speculation ranging from meteor to possible artificial origins. The quick confirmation by experts dispelled doubts about the natural nature of the phenomenon.

Many people sent reports to local news portals, highlighting their surprise at seeing the flash during the evening. The event generated immediate interest in amateur astronomy in the region.

A bolide like the one observed represents a reminder of the constant activity of space objects close to Terra. Eventos of this type occur frequently, but few achieve such broad and simultaneous visibility in densely populated areas.

Complete disintegration in the atmosphere in most cases prevents major impacts. Especialistas continues to analyze witness data to map the exact path and estimate the composition of the original material.

The phenomenon reinforces the importance of monitoring networks to record these events. Observações collectives help to better understand the frequency and characteristics of meteoroids that interact with the Earth’s atmosphere.
