Chinese manufacturer BYD announced the second generation of the Blade battery, which allows ultra-fast recharges compatible with the conventional fueling time of combustion vehicles. The novelty arrives together with the Flash Charging system, capable of delivering up to 1500 kW of power per connector. Essa combination solves one of the main obstacles to the mass adoption of electric vehicles, which are prolonged recharging times and concerns about autonomy in varying conditions. The announcement took place at an event held in Shenzhen, at China, at the beginning of March 2026.

The Blade 2.0 battery maintains lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, known for safety and affordability. Ela incorporates the FlashPass lithium-ion transport system, which optimizes performance on multiple fronts. With this, the technology balances high recharge speed and greater energy density, without compromising durability or structural integrity.

Record charging performance

Recharging from 10% to 70% occurs in about five minutes under normal conditions. Já filling from 10% to 97% takes approximately nine minutes. Esses times represent a significant advance compared to previous generations.

The system maintains efficiency even in extreme temperatures. In -30°C environments, recharging from 20% to 97% is completed in around 12 minutes. Essa performance reduces typical limitations faced by batteries in cold climates.

Technical innovations in the battery

The Flash-Release cathode adopts multilevel architecture with particles of varying sizes and directed orientation. Essa structure enables dense packing and rapid deintercalation of lithium ions.

The Flash-Flow electrolyte has been optimized using artificial intelligence. Ele guarantees high ionic conductivity and accelerated ion mobility during the charging process.

The Flash-Intercalate anode features a multidimensional structure with improved intercalation sites. Essa configuration facilitates rapid three-dimensional penetration of lithium ions.

Electrode redesign and perpendicular alignment of graphite particles decrease internal resistance. Essas changes contribute to a 5% gain in energy density compared to the previous version.

Security maintained through extreme testing

The batteries have passed more than 500 nail penetration tests during rapid charging. Nenhum case recorded thermal leakage, smoke emission or fire.

Additional tests simulated simultaneous short circuits in four cells. The procedure did not result in a fire or explosion, confirming the robustness of the technology.

Expansion of the Flash charger network

BYD has already installed thousands of Flash Charging stations on China. The plan envisages reaching almost 20 thousand units by the end of 2026.

The infrastructure covers urban areas and main highways. The company intends to expand the system to international markets from the end of 2026.

First model with new technology

The Denza Z9GT, a premium vehicle from the Denza brand, will be the first equipped with the Blade 2.0 battery. Ele is fully compatible with the Flash Charging system.

The model is positioned in the high-performance segment. Seu launch will take place soon, with a focus on high autonomy and fast recharges.

The combination of these technologies seeks to eliminate remaining barriers to electromobility. BYD advances in building a global network that makes charging convenient and accessible.
