AMD has released the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1 driver with FSR 4.1 support exclusively for the Radeon RX 9000 cards, bringing improvements to AI upscaling technology. The update coincides with the release of the game Crimson Desert, which serves as a showcase for the new version of FSR. The novelty comes in parallel with the improvement of PSSR on the PS5 Pro, the result of the partnership between AMD and Sony. The changes focus on greater image sharpness, more fluid camera movements and optimized performance in Ultra Performance mode.

Driver 26.3.1 adds official support for Crimson Desert and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Usuários and Radeon RX 9000 gain immediate access to FSR 4.1, which enhances machine learning-based upscaling. AMD highlights advances in fine details and visual consistency.

Technical improvements in FSR 4.1

Version 4.1 refines image processing in three main aspects. Detalhes gain greater richness, especially in complex elements such as vegetation and textures. Camera Movimentos features superior smoothness, reducing artifacts in dynamic scenes. Ultra Performance mode maintains high performance with less quality loss.

The Crimson Desert demonstrates these developments in practice. The title supports FSR 3, FSR 4 and Ray Regeneration, a denoising feature for ray tracing that improves reflections and lighting. With the new driver, the game sports AMD’s latest graphics stack from day one.

AMD and Sony partnership on Projeto Amethyst

FSR 4.1 base shares neural network with PSSR update on PS5 Pro. The collaboration, called Projeto Amethyst and started in 2023, develops AI models for graphical enhancement on consoles and PCs. The result arrives refined on the console after extra months of adjustments.

The PS5 Pro received the improved version of PSSR, with an option to improve image quality in compatible games. Resident Evil Requiem marked the debut of the update, and a toggle on the system allows you to activate it in titles with original PSSR. Sony confirms that co-developed technology delivers advances in stability and clarity.

Implementation differences between platforms

Although they share algorithmic origins, FSR 4.1 and updated PSSR adapt to specific hardware. As Radeon RX 9000 use dedicated units for AI matrix instructions. The PS5 Pro performs calculations on conventional computing units, with acceleration in INT8 format and up to 300 TOPs of performance.

Independent analyzes point to significant gains in image clarity on the console. The adaptation considers limitations such as the absence of a dedicated L3 cache and separate memory pool, unlike desktop GPUs.

Exclusive to RX 9000 series

FSR 4.1 remains restricted to the RDNA 4 architecture of the Radeon RX 9000.

Modders run the technology on RDNA 2 and 3 boards themselves. AMD remains silent about future expansion, which reignites debates about product segmentation.

Convergence between PC and console

The AMD-Sony collaboration indicates continued technical depth. The refined neural network benefits both platforms. Jogadores PCs with RX 9000 access incremental upscaling improvements. On PS5 Pro, six extra months of development deliver a version optimized for fixed hardware.

The advancement reduces distances in relation to competing upscaling technologies. Futuros products should explore this partnership further.
