Netflix will suspend the operation of the application on several old cell phones with both the Android and iOS systems from April 1, 2026. The measure affects devices that no longer meet the minimum operating system requirements required by the platform. Usuários of these devices will no longer be able to open, install or update the app through official stores.

Technical criteria now require Android 7.0 or higher versions in the case of smartphones with the Google system. Para iPhones, compatibility is restricted to iOS 17 or later updates. Aparelhos who do not reach these levels are prevented from accessing the service even if the application is currently installed.

  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime
  • LG Optimus L5
  • LG Optimus L7

Technical reasons behind the restriction

Netflix’s decision is linked to the need to maintain security and performance standards compatible with the new features of the streaming service. Dispositivos released between 2011 and 2014 stopped receiving operating system updates several years ago. Essa lack of support prevents devices from running the latest versions of the application without risk of failure or exposure to vulnerabilities.

In the Android ecosystem, models such as the LG G2 Sony Xperia Z Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia E3 also enter the incompatibility list. Esses smartphones cannot officially reach Android 7.0, which makes them unsuitable for the platform’s current requirements.

Impact on iPhone users

In the case of Apple, the restriction applies to the iPhone X and all previous models. Esses devices are not compatible with iOS 17 released only for newer generations of iPhones. Mesmo that still work for basic communication tasks, devices no longer receive security and performance improvements necessary for modern streaming services.

The suspension applies to both new installations and updates to the application already present on affected cell phones. Usuários who try to access Netflix through the app will receive messages indicating the device’s incompatibility.

Recommendations for those who have a device on the list

Those still using one of the affected models can continue watching Netflix content through the web browser in some cases, although the experience is not the same as that offered by the dedicated application. The platform recommends migrating to newer devices that meet the minimum system requirements. Essa transition ensures seamless access to all features including superior image quality and new functionality.

The measure reflects a common trend among digital services that need to balance compatibility with technological evolution and the protection of user data. Old Aparelhos exposed to outdated versions of operating systems present greater risks of cyber attacks, which justifies the limitation adopted by Netflix.

In addition to the aforementioned, other devices from the same period also lose support. The incompatibility arises because these devices no longer receive security patches or updates that allow them to run modern applications with stability. Netflix prioritizes a secure and fluid experience for the majority of subscribers.

Cell phones that still work normally

Smartphones with Android 7.0 or higher and iPhones compatible with iOS 17 maintain full access to the application without any interruption. The platform continues to invest in improvements for these devices ensuring that the majority of users are not affected by the change.
