Customized Suzuki Hi-R receives Honda RS125 competition engine and wide wheels at 2026 event
Event Moto Champ Scooter Meeting, in its twenty-sixth edition, stood out for the presentation of automotive engineering projects applied to compact vehicles. One of the main highlights of the exhibition was a motorcycle Suzuki Hi-R, originally manufactured in the eighties, which underwent a complete process of mechanical and visual restructuring. The vehicle owner integrated high-performance components, transforming the urban model into a track-spec machine. The central modification involved replacing the original propellant with a competition engine, drastically altering the weight-to-power ratio of the classic chassis.
The adaptation required detailed technical planning to ensure the structural stability of the original Suzuki frame. The engineers and mechanics involved in the project needed to redesign the fixing points to support the additional torque generated by the new powertrain. Essa technical approach demonstrates a growing trend in the customization sector, where retro aesthetics are preserved while mechanics are updated with contemporary precision machining and welding technology.
To enable safe and functional assembly, the technical team implemented specific modifications to the vehicle’s primary structure. The main structural changes included:
– Adoção of model Address 110 crankcase to house the new transmission system.
– Instalação of the original cylinder of Honda RS125, developed for competitions.
– Redesenho of the cooling and exhaust system to maintain engine durability.
– Integração front suspension Honda Zoomer to improve directional stability.
Mechanical integration between classic chassis and high-performance engine
The heart of the modification lies in the installation of the engine derived from the Honda RS125, a device recognized in the sporting world for its abrupt power delivery and high rpm. The choice of this specific propellant required the manufacture of a reinforced subframe, capable of absorbing the vibrations and torsion generated during rapid accelerations. The customization team used high-strength metal alloys to weld the new brackets, ensuring that the rear suspension geometry operated in sync with the front axle. The crankcase of the Address 110 was machined to receive internal competition components, creating an exclusive hybrid system that supports the demands of a high-performance two-stroke engine.
In addition to fixing the engine, the exhaust system required special attention due to the restricted space in the Suzuki Hi-R frame. A custom-sized exhaust was built, with curves calculated to optimize gas output and maximize cylinder performance at high speeds. The refrigeration also underwent updates, receiving larger capacity radiators and silicone ducts that withstand extreme temperatures. Proper thermal management prevents the assembly from overheating during prolonged use, maintaining the mechanical reliability required in rigorous exhibition events and track testing.
Braking system and front suspension upgrade
The substantial increase in acceleration capacity made a complete overhaul of the original braking system mandatory. The team chose to install a two hundred and twenty millimeter NCY floating disc on the front wheel, sized to dissipate the heat generated by braking at high speeds.
To work in conjunction with the new disc, a four-piston radial caliper was mounted, secured using a support machined from aircraft-grade aluminum. Essa configuration provides superior braking force, ensuring that the driver can safely stop the vehicle over short distances.
The front suspension, from Honda Zoomer, received springs with higher load and higher viscosity oil. The fine adjustment of the shock absorbers prevents excessive diving of the front of the vehicle during sudden braking, keeping the trajectory stable and copying the asphalt’s imperfections with precision.
Digital instrument cluster and data monitoring
The modernization of the instrument panel was carried out with the installation of the digital system Acewell ACE3693. The equipment replaces the original analog displays, providing accurate real-time readings through a high-visibility liquid crystal display.
The new panel displays crucial information such as engine speed, speed measured by a magnetic sensor, coolant temperature and battery voltage level. The digital interface facilitates monitoring of the high-performance propeller, preventing mechanical failures due to excessive rotation or abnormal heating.
Widened wheels and sporty profile tires
In the rear section, the motorcycle was equipped with a six-inch wide Douglas wheel. The polished aluminum part significantly alters the aesthetics and dynamics of the vehicle, requiring precise offset calculations for correct alignment with the transmission pinion.
Installing the wider wheel required moving the hub and adapting the swinging arm. The millimeter alignment was necessary to avoid tire contact with the chassis or engine components during the maximum travel of the rear suspension under load conditions.
The tire chosen to fit the new wheel measures one hundred and twenty by ninety, mounted on a ten-inch rim. The soft rubber compound offers optimized grip on the asphalt, essential for transferring engine power to the ground without unwanted loss of traction.
The combination of wide wheels and a lowered chassis gives the Suzuki Hi-R an aggressive, low-to-the-ground stance. The reduced center of gravity improves stability in high-speed corners and minimizes the tendency to wheelie during sudden starts.
Adaptation of the rear shock absorber and chassis geometry
To maintain adequate directional control and shock absorption, the rear damping system was replaced with a KN Kikaku component, designed to withstand greater loads and offer multiple compression and hydraulic return adjustments. Installing this shock absorber required the creation of new anchor points on the chassis, modifying the original inclination angle to adapt the height of the motorcycle to the new wide-profile wheels. The revised geometry allows the vehicle to maintain stability on high-speed straights, compensating for the relatively short wheelbase of the eighties structure. Fine-tuning the spring preload allows the rider to configure the suspension behavior according to weight and specific track conditions, ensuring that the rear wheel maintains constant contact with the ground even on uneven surfaces or during strong reacceleration when exiting corners.
Retro aesthetics preserved with professional finishing
Despite extensive mechanical modifications, Suzuki Hi-R’s original fairing has been rigorously restored and maintained in its factory form. The paintwork received a high-gloss treatment with polyurethane varnish, preserving the model’s classic visual identity while hiding the complex engineering and machined aluminum components beneath the body plastics.
Impact of custom engineering on the automotive sector
Projects that combine old structures with high-performance engines highlight the evolution of CNC machining and TIG welding techniques available to independent customizers in the current year. The precision in the execution of these assemblies establishes new quality and safety parameters for automotive exhibition events, requiring rigorous technical inspections to approve vehicles that far exceed the original factory specifications.
