The spot dollar ended negotiations on a significant rise this Thursday (23), returning to the level of R$5.00. The final price was R$5.0036, an increase of 0.60% compared to the previous closing. Este movement reflects growing risk aversion in global markets, driven mainly by geopolitical tensions in Oriente Médio.

Instability in the region has generated significant uncertainty, leading investors to seek assets considered safer, such as the US currency. The escalation of tensions, closely monitored by analysts, dominates the operating tables. Fear of broader conflict directly impacts investment decisions and capital flows.

Geopolitical Cenário sparks global alert in markets

The foreign exchange market was constantly monitoring developments in the peace negotiations on Oriente Médio throughout the day. The situation became more volatile following the news of the departure of Parlamento’s president from Irã and main negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, from the negotiating team with Estados Unidos. Essa information, released by Israeli media early this Thursday afternoon, raised a significant alert. The movement signals a possible resumption of tensions between the two countries.

Paralelamente, the North American president Donald Trump reinforced his position. Ele stated that a deal with the Persian country will only be made when it is “appropriate and good” for US interests. Essa statement adds a layer of complexity to expectations of conflict resolution, keeping the market in a state of caution. Leaders’ firm rhetoric contributes to the global uncertain environment.

Transferência dialogue and regional impact

Outro weight factor was the change in the trading venue between Líbano and Israel. The negotiations, which would previously take place on Departamento from Estado in the USA, were transferred to Casa Branca. The decision aims to allow President Donald Trump to follow the conversations closely. Essa measurement was reported by a senior official of Casa Branca to New York Times.

Last week, Líbano and Israel had entered into a 10-day ceasefire agreement. The sudden change in the scenario and the intensification of involvement at high political levels suggest that the situation is far from stabilizing. Instability at this boundary is crucial to the security of the entire Oriente Médio.

Petróleo above $100 and inflationary pressure

Diante geopolitical uncertainties, oil prices remained firm at the level of US$ 100 per barrel. Essa commodity appreciation exerts global inflationary pressure, directly affecting economies. The Estreito of Ormuz is a vital route for oil transportation.

Para Bruno Shahini, investment specialist at Nomad, the rise in the commodity reinforced the global risk premium associated with the region. Este scenario, in turn, raised inflationary concerns in several nations. Consequentemente, monetary policy expectations are under pressure, leading central banks to consider more restrictive measures. Shahini added that “the movement reflected a recomposition of more defensive positions, with the exchange rate reacting directly to the increase in risk aversion coming from the still uncertain geopolitical scenario”.

Repercussão on Wall Street and defensive strategies

Global risk aversion has also manifested itself on stock markets. Wall Street registered a significant decline this Thursday, with uncertainties about the future of the war with Irã impacting investor confidence. The Nasdaq index, which brings together technology companies, led the losses, reflecting the sector’s sensitivity to instability scenarios.

The search for safer assets, such as the dollar and US treasury bonds, is a common reaction to these environments. Global Investidores adjust their portfolios, seeking less exposure to volatile and emerging markets. Essa’s search for protection could lead to a flow of capital out of Brasil, directly influencing the exchange rate and local liquidity. Future developments in Oriente Médio will be crucial in defining the next steps for international markets.
