Fiscais responsible for inspection of the Ypê factory in Amparo, São Paulo, reported significant hygiene issues that led to the closure of a production line. The inspection identified, for the second time, the presence of microorganisms in cleaning products, reinforcing the concern of health authorities. The situation raises the possibility of possible contamination of the water used in the facilities by sewage, which is under investigation.
The decision to suspend production was due to the company’s inability to consistently resolve the issue, which was originally discovered in November last year. The presence of the microorganism is common in hospital infections, mainly affecting the lungs, especially in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Manoel Lara, director of Centro of Vigilância Sanitária of São Paulo (CVS), detailed the flaws identified during the inspection that led to the interruption of production at the Ypê unit. Ele pointed out deficiencies both in documentary aspects and in direct problems related to hygiene and cleaning in manufacturing areas. Essas inadequacies in good product processing practices may be directly associated with contamination by the bacteria *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, according to the inspectors’ initial assessment.
The inspection found a widespread accumulation of dirt in the production environment. The presence of dust and other residues indicates that minimum hygiene standards were not being maintained continuously, creating an environment conducive to the proliferation of microorganisms.

The exact origin of the bacteria in cleaning products has not yet been determined with certainty by health authorities. Contudo, CVS is actively investigating the possibility that a break in the sewage drainage structure has contaminated the water reservoir used to manufacture the products. The manufacturing environment, according to the observations of director Manoel Lara, was not in suitable conditions for the production of cleaning materials that require sanitary rigor. The investigation seeks to elucidate whether the primary cause lies in the quality of the water supplied, in the hygiene processes used by the company or in aspects related to the handling of inputs and products by employees. The analysis of all these variables is essential to identify and correct the source of contamination.
Suspensão production line and batch holding
Entre the first intervention by health authorities in November last year and the most recent analysis, carried out in April, some batches of products were tested and appeared clean. However, the continued detection of the microorganism in more recently manufactured products has revived authorities’ alertness and indicated the persistence of the problem.

The agency not only ordered the retention of contaminated products, but also imposed the closure of facilities in the specific sector of the Ypê factory in Amparo. The affected production line is substantial, with annual capacity to manufacture 23,000 tons of detergent and 33,000 tons of liquid laundry detergent.
Embora and Anvisa did not specify the exact quantity of products to be recalled from the market, the measure covers units filled over a period of six months, between April and September 2025. Outros batches produced after the initial period were retained at the factory for additional analysis, following Anvisa’s intervention in November. It is important to note that Ypê has other production lines in the same factory as Amparo, in addition to units in other regions of Brasil, but these were not subject to fines by the authorities. The infraction notice was drawn up by the city hall of Amparo, in coordination with the state and federal spheres.
Procedimentos for reversal of decision and appeal deadline
The company has a period of ten days to file an appeal if it decides to contest the health surveillance decision. Conforme Luiz Crescenzo, communications secretary of Amparo, if the appeal does not provide sufficient arguments to refute the violations of good production practices identified by Anvisa, the imposition of a fine is a concrete possibility. Centro of Vigilância Sanitária, in turn, considers that the suspension decision can still be reversed.
