The São Paulo subway workers’ union accepted the proposal from Tribunal Regional of Trabalho (TRT), resulting in the cancellation of the strike that was planned for the capital of São Paulo. The decisive assembly, where the category voted in favor of suspending the strike, was closed shortly before 10pm this Tuesday (12). With the deliberation, the Metrô lines should operate normally from this Wednesday (13th), avoiding inconvenience for thousands of users who depend on public transport.
Categoria maintains mobilization despite suspension
Apesar of the decision to suspend the strike, the workers affirm that the mobilization in defense of their rights will continue to be active. A union leader highlighted the importance of continuing the fight for public tenders, new hires and resolving issues related to Metrus, the category’s health plan. The vote expressed a strategic choice not to proceed with the immediate strike, but the agenda of demands remains open and is a central point for metro workers. The entity emphasizes that the category will remain committed against privatization and in defense of all items on the negotiation agenda.
Reivindicações cover wages and working conditions
Metro workers presented a robust agenda with 11 main demands, seeking better working conditions and significant improvements for the category. Dissatisfaction with the current situation of Metrô is a motivating factor for the order set. The category claims that, although the work is carried out with excellence, the number of employees operating the system today corresponds to around half of the number ten years ago, creating overload.
Entre the main demands presented by the union are:
- Reajuste fair salary and adjusted to inflation.
- Participação in Lucros and Resultados (PLR) equally for everyone.
- Concessão of steps, which are additional adjustments, without percentage limitation.
- Ampliação of the 4x2x4 work scale, aiming for a more balanced distribution.
- Implementação of a structured career plan and salary equality between positions.
- Abono salary to compensate for passing losses and encourage the category.
- Acesso free to the metro-rail system for employees, as a benefit.
Críticas to state management and the Metrus plan
The category expressed strong criticism of the management of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio of Freitas. The union questioned the announcement that there will no longer be public competitions for certain positions, arguing that the government plans to fill these vacancies through outsourcing. Esta measure, according to metro workers, compromises the quality of service and makes working relationships precarious, going against workers’ expectations for stability and recognition.
Além salary and working conditions issues, employees expressed dissatisfaction with the Metrus health plan. The topic is a recurring concern for the category, which seeks improvements in coverage and benefit management. Discussions surrounding the Metrus health plan are considered crucial for the safety and well-being of workers and their dependents.
Normal Operação predicted for mainlines
With the acceptance of the proposal and the suspension of the strike, lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver of Metrô and São Paulo should operate normally this Wednesday (13). The decision aims to normalize the public transport service, which serves millions of São Paulo residents daily. The expectation is that the flow of passengers will occur without interruption, according to the usual schedule of stations and trains. The mobilization, however, continues on other fronts, reinforcing the importance of union vigilance.
