Google launches Android 17 with artificial intelligence agents integrated into the system
Google presented Android 17 this Tuesday (12) with a focus on deep integration of artificial intelligence agents. The new generation of the operating system features built-in Gemini, allowing the device to perform autonomous actions in addition to answering questions, a fundamental change in the way smartphones process tasks.
Dieter Bohn, director of operations at Google, stated during the presentation to journalists that this is the biggest update for Android since the beginning of his career at the company. Ele described the transformation as an evolution from a simple operating system to an intelligent platform capable of learning and working on behalf of the user.
Gemini Intelligence and task automation
The main difference of Android 17 is the ability to perform actions without constant user intervention. Instead of just answering textual questions, the new system can organize orders in delivery apps, reserve gym times and perform other tasks that require multiple steps and access to different apps.
The technology works in multimodal mode, processing information not only from text, but also from images and audio. The concept of AI agents began to gain traction in late 2024 and was consolidated in 2026 with initiatives such as OpenClaw and Manus AI. Automations only occur in applications selected by users, who can change these preferences in system settings. Google keeps privacy a priority by controlling which apps are allowed to receive actions from Gemini Intelligence.
The first devices to receive the feature will be the Galaxy S26 (Samsung) and Google Pixel line, starting in June in the American market. The strategy prioritizes more powerful hardware, capable of processing multiple task steps. Posteriormente, the functionality will reach other brands:

Gemini on Chrome: agent for web browsing
The mobile version of Chrome will also be boosted by Gemini 3.1, allowing the browser to understand the content of the pages visited and perform tasks directly on the web. An Gemini icon will appear in the top right corner of the toolbar, opening a lower overlay when clicked.
The user will be able to ask specific questions about the site, request article summaries, or request explanations on complex topics without switching between applications. The agent provides personalized responses based on the user’s interests, hobbies, and family background.

A feature called “auto browse” performs everyday tasks autonomously. Exemplos include updating recurring orders on shopping sites or reserving parking while the user engages in other activities. The launch of Gemini for Chrome will take place at the end of June for cell phones with Android 12 or higher and at least 4 GB of memory. The “auto browse” feature requires a subscription to the AI Pro (R$97 monthly) or Ultra (R$1,210 monthly) plans, in addition to the default language in English.
Rambler: natural speech understanding
The Rambler represents a breakthrough in understanding voice commands. The tool interprets hesitations, repetitions and corrections during speech, allowing natural communication without the need for artificial pauses or perfect intonation. Essa’s promise has been pursued since Google Assistante, but has never been fully realized.

Android 17 also received a complete redesign of its 4 thousand emojis, making them more vivid and faithful to the feelings they intend to convey. The new designs debut on the Pixel and will be expanded to other models throughout the year.

A partnership between Google and Meta deeply integrates Instagram into the new system.
