Heide dominates French and advances to the next phase of Roland Garros qualifying

São Paulo tennis player Gustavo Heide won his place in the second round of the Roland Garros 2026 qualifier this Tuesday. Ele beat the French Dan Added by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 6/3 and 6/0, in just 63 minutes of play. The result puts Heide, currently 187th in the ATP rankings, closer to the main draw of the most important clay court Grand Slam of the season.

The acting was practically flawless. Heide applied a complete “tire” on the 27-year-old French tennis player, who is ranked 230th in the world rankings. The performance solidifies the good phase of the athlete, who reached two challenger finals this season.

Heide breaks Added’s defense early

The first installment was decided with decisive breaks. Gustavo Heide got his first break in the third game, taking advantage of the second break point of the opportunity. Dan Added fought back and broke back in the sixth game, but was unable to maintain the pace. Heide broke again then and saved an important break point to go up 5-3. In the chance to close the part, he didn’t waste it, winning all the points.

The dominance left the Frenchman with virtually no playing options. Added was unable to find solutions over the first 25 minutes, while the São Paulo native consolidated his advantage with safe services and aggressive returns.

Segundo set marks eight games in a row for Heide

The second set consolidated Heide’s superiority. Ele won eight consecutive games during the partial, leaving Added with no real chance of reacting. Next, Heide faces the Austrian Jurij Rodionov, 158th in the ATP rankings. Rodionov defeated the Serbian Dusan Lajovic, 136th and seed 20, this Tuesday, with a tight result: 6/2 and 7/5. The winner of this bracket will go on to face one of the names that will leave the dispute between:

• Croata Borna Gojo, 172nd in the ranking
• Português Henrique Rocha, 118th
• Húngaro Piros Zsombor, 175th

The qualifier bracket only offers one spot on the Roland Garros main table, which intensifies the competition in the next rounds.

Brasil advances strongly in qualifiers

The Brazilian campaign in the qualifiers remains robust. Ontem, João Lucas Reis and Pedro Boscardin also qualified for the second round of the tournament. Ainda this Tuesday, Laura Pigosli and Thiago Wild make their debut in the Roland Garros qualifier. The performance of national tennis contrasts with that of some stars who also need to go through the tournament’s qualifiers.

Canadian Bianca Andreescu, former US Open champion (2019), defeated Daphnée Mpetshi Perricard. At 25 years old and currently ranked 160th in the world, Andreescu had already reached third place in the rankings. Karolina Pliskova, former ranking leader, also advanced by beating Ku Yeon Woo. The Czech returned to the competition after a year’s break, starting her return in the Aberto of Austrália 2025, and today is in 109th.

Heide looking for his second main draw appearance

Este is the second year in a row that Gustavo Heide has competed in the Roland Garros qualifier. In 2024, he had a memorable campaign, winning three victories — including over Lukás Klein, Bu Yunchaokete and Matteo Gigante — until reaching the main draw. Aquele was the only challenger title that Fonseca had lost so far.
