Scaloni fears that Messi will not be 100% physically fit for the World Cup

Inter Miami’s medical department released an official statement regarding Messi’s condition after the match against Philadelphia Union. The assessment showed muscular overload associated with fatigue in the back of the left thigh, with no indication of serious structural injury.

Scaloni reported that he was awaiting the results of additional tests to confirm the first medical reports. The coach commented on the situation in an interview given days after the episode, reaffirming hope for the player’s recovery for Copa from Mundo.

Argentina faces injury crisis

Argentina doesn’t just suffer from Messi’s injury. Scaloni confirmed that several other players are recovering from physical problems before the competition:

Scaloni reaffirmed that the top priority now is the rehabilitation of all injured athletes to ensure they arrive at Copa from Mundo in the best condition possible. The coach informed that none of the players mentioned will participate in the preparatory friendlies before the competition.

The Argentine coach confirmed that all injured players will be re-evaluated until the announcement of the final call-up for Copa of Mundo. The communication to FIFA must be delivered by June 2, the deadline for confirming the squad.

Scaloni stated in an interview: “We all wished that Messi could join the national team in full form, but that is not the reality. The first news is not all bad. Argentina debuts at Grupo J against Argélia on June 16th at Kansas City. The second commitment will be against Áustria on June 22nd, in Arlington, Texas. The third and final game of the group stage takes place against Jordânia on June 27th, also at Arlington.

Scaloni hopes to have as many healthy players as possible during this early run of matches. Messi’s recovery in the coming weeks will be decisive for Argentina’s aspirations in the competition.
