Albacete Balompié confirmed this Tuesday the departure of José Carlos Lazo. The Gaditan striker will not continue at the club after the end of his contract, which expires on June 30th.
Lazo arrived at Carlos Belmonte in August 2024 with great expectations. The club signed him as a strong reinforcement, capable of adding creativity to the attack, after spells at Almería and Espanyol. At the time, his hiring was seen as one of the main ones in the project.
During his two seasons at Albacete, the player played 57 official matches and scored five goals. His performance, however, was below expectations, hampered by injuries and a lack of regularity on the field.
First official goodbye from the window
Lazo’s departure represents the first confirmed move in Albacete’s departures for next season. The club begins planning under the command of Toché, who needs to define the squad after the end of the 2025/2026 season in the Second Division.
Albacete released an official statement thanking the athlete for his professional attitude. “We have nothing but words of thanks to Lazo for the professionalism he always displayed during the time he wore our shirt. We wish him the best of luck in the upcoming challenges”, highlighted the entity.
Agridulce stage at Carlos Belmonte
Lazo’s time at Alba generated mixed feelings among the fans. Despite moments of technical quality, the player was unable to maintain the desired consistency. Physical problems and the difficulty of establishing himself as a key player marked his career in the Manchego team.
Before arriving in Albacete, the 30-year-old striker stood out at Almería, where he contributed to their access to the Spanish elite. A graduate of Real Madrid’s youth teams, he has experience at several Second Division clubs and enjoyed his best phase in Andalusia.
Now, Lazo is free on the market and can seek a new destination. Albacete, in turn, continues to work on reformulating the squad for the 2026/2027 season.
