The Norwegian team innovated in publicizing its official image for the World Cup by posing in a photo shoot characterized as Viking warriors. The project will sell limited runs of the photograph to raise funds. The Norwegian Football Federation’s expectations indicate that the initiative will earn 39 million Norwegian kroner. The amount is equivalent to approximately R$21.3 million at the current financial price.
The work involved the athletes in a real production carried out in a natural setting in the European country. Striker Erling Haaland and 25 other players from the professional squad participated in the visual capture activity. The local football governing body confirmed that it will transfer a percentage of the profits obtained from sales to the Norwegian Association to Combat Childhood Cancer, an institution that receives continuous support from the men’s national team athletes.
Artistic production in fjord mobilizes cast and dispenses with artificial intelligence
The photoshoot took place in a fjord located near the capital Oslo under the command of experienced photographer David Yarrow. The production used historical scenographic elements such as legitimate wooden vessels positioned in the background of the composition. The project organization chose to record the moment in an analogue and traditional way without using artificial intelligence tools to create the visual elements.
Only one specific technological intervention was necessary to complete the advertising material due to absences on the day of the session. Midfielder and captain Martin Odegaard was unable to attend the rehearsal site along with the rest of the professional athletes. For this reason, the technical team digitally inserted the player into the finished image to ensure the presence of all group leaders on the World Cup poster.
Prices for exclusive prints vary depending on the size of the work
The Norwegian Football Association has established a restricted business model for distributing the poster titled ‘The Vikings Are Coming’. Only 250 official physical copies of the collectible image will be placed on the international art market. Interested buyers will find different purchase prices depending on the dimensions requested for the wall paintings.
- Compact size printing: 100 thousand Norwegian kroner or R$54 thousand
- Intermediate size printing: prices subject to direct consultation with official distributors
- Monumental size print: 375 thousand Norwegian kroner or R$ 205 thousand
Historic partnership with children’s oncology treatment drives fundraising
The allocation of part of the project’s gross revenue reinforces a bond of solidarity maintained by the Scandinavian sports community. The country’s Association to Combat Childhood Cancer provides medical, psychological and social support for families facing the diagnosis of the disease in young patients. The Norwegian national team players make frequent visits and participate in financial campaigns to maintain the philanthropic entity’s services.
The resources from the Viking trial will pay for medical research and improvements in hospital wards. The global visibility of European football stars such as Erling Haaland boosted demand for the works even before the start of the world team tournament. Art critics and sports collectors point out that the print run of 250 units is expected to sell out quickly in sales channels.
