Security in Osaka’s underground shopping areas
Tennoji is one of the city’s main commercial and tourist hubs, with a large flow of pedestrians every day. The basement of the metro station, known as Abeno Chikagai or “Abechika”, contains shops, restaurants and passages that connect different transport lines. Incidents like this draw attention because they contrast with the general perception of low violent crime in Japan, although Osaka records slightly higher rates than other major cities in the country in certain types of theft.
The woman is not at risk of death, according to the first official information. The police have intensified their searches and are asking for the public’s collaboration with any images or information about the two men. The case reinforces the importance of extra attention in busy public spaces, especially at peak times in the late afternoon.
Authorities have not yet released details about the victim’s exact nationality or the precise severity of the injuries beyond stability. The investigation remains ongoing to clarify the exact sequence of events and locate the suspects.
