A serious accident involving two buses left a child dead and several people injured in Oberbayern. A travel bus with students and teachers from two second grade classes at Haimhausen primary school collided with a bus on Wednesday afternoon (10) in Hebertshausen, in the district of Dachau.
According to police information, all 35 occupants of the travel bus were injured, including several children. A second-grade boy succumbed to his injuries and died inside the vehicle, despite attempts at resuscitation. Two children and a teacher remain at risk of death.
Two other students suffered medium-severity injuries, while 28 people had minor injuries, including the two drivers. The injured received medical attention at the scene.
130 rescuers work in the rescue operation
More than 130 emergency personnel were mobilized, with around 15 ambulances, eight emergency doctors and four rescue helicopters sent to the scene. The first teams reported scenes of great chaos shortly after the crash.
Collision occurred on curve on state highway
The accident happened at around 12:30 pm on state road 2339, between Ampermoching and Ottershausen, in a curved area. On the road, the speed limit is 60 km/h in one direction and 50 km/h in the other. The road remains closed and traffic forms a queue in the surrounding area.
Alcohol tests come back negative for drivers
Regional administrator Stefan Löwl (CSU) reported that the drivers of the two buses underwent rapid alcohol tests while still on site, with negative results. The measure served to deny rumors circulating on social media about possible drunkenness.
The exact causes of the collision are not yet clear. The Munich II prosecutor’s office requested technical expertise to determine what caused the accident.
